Wheldrake is a small Amusan town not too far from Galik. With a population around 200-250, there's not much to see beside farms and the general store. Sometimes a town can be nondescript without deep secrets lurking beneath the surface.
About
Wheldrake is located outside the bustle of Galik and near Mt. Krogan, one of the volcanic Twin Devils.
History
Perhaps Wheldrake's history, or lack of notable history, is best known by the elven poet Meriele Cook. It's said she's lived just outside Wheldrake for hundreds of years, writing poetry about nature, Mielikki, and love. Farmers going to work in the early hours of the morning would often share a knowing nod with Meriele as she went on walks through the countryside and nearby forest. They had their work, and she had hers. Her last name comes from Elizabeth Cook, Meriele's partner of 58 years before the human passed in her old age.
Notable Places
The Rusty Spigot is the local watering hole. There actually once was a rusty spigot behind the pub, where the feisty would take fights outside and lovers would meet in the dead of night. As local lore goes, a gnome cut his mouth and contracted tetanus while demonstrating to a friend how best to pleasure a spigot. The lurid rumors were what supposedly inspired the owners to remove the eponymous spout.
The Fire & the Anvil and The Bubbling Vial are dual shops that share the same building. The smithy and the potions shop were started by brothers who happily shared the space. However, as time has passed, the new owners are on less pleasant terms.
The Colonel is Wheldrake's not-quite-general store. The shop has little to offer besides the self-deprecating pun and accompanying corn kernel sales. Tim Wheeler, a stock boy, insists it should be renamed "The Whoremonger" because of its extensive collection of hoes.
