Physical Appearance
As a Demon Ratatrosk is able to take many forms. In his true form he appears as a massive rat with rotting and diseased flesh, covered in pustules and boils. His claws drip with slime and the skin on his face is peeled back revealing a dirty rat skull beneath. When he is trying to be more inconspicuous, he takes the form of a humanoid rogue, wearing dark purple and black leathers with a cape, and with a skeletal rat's skull for a head. In either form, he wields two dagger's he calls his "fangs," each coated with countless poisons and diseases.
Personality
Ratatrosk is sniveling, conniving, and cowardly, yet unendingly ambitious. After all their years of life, the only real wisdom they ever learned, was to know when a situation is about to go bad, and the best way to flee. He hold no true allegiances other then to himself, tossing away friends and allies at a moments notice if it benefits his own survival. he imagines himself to be a great demon lord and aspires to be renowned and feared like the Demogorgon and Orcus, but he fails to match them in cunning and follow through, his cowardly and traitorous nature always serving as his biggest weakness.
This has grown a hatred for his fellow demon lord, and dreams of a world where the rats and vermin will rise up from the bottom to overtake them all.
But when Ratatrosk was banished back to the Abyss by the Hellraisers, he mourned the loss of his friendship with them. Because deep down, Ratatrosk just wants to be accepted.
History
Ratatrosk is the oldest known demon lord in all of Quelmar, yet their countless years have garnered them little in terms of wisdom or power. Whenever they did attempt to gain command over a layer of the Abyss, sooner or later a more powerful demon would come in and force Ratatrosk out. Ratatrosk was the father of rats and vermin, introducing their kinds to Quelmar along with the many diseases they carry. Ratatrosk was also the one responsible for the creation of the curse of Wererat Lycanthropy.
During the Demonic Infiltration, Ratatrosk ravaged the cities along Pteris' eastern coasts by spreading plagues of rats and disease.
The Infernal Insurrection
In 925 PR, Ratatrosk made a deal with the Ordained, a group of giant cult fanatics, in order to kill Charon. Being a demon, Ratatrosk was one of the only creatures in existence able to kill the ferryman of the River Styx. After slaying Charon, Ratatrosk then used Charon's oar to stop the flow of the Styx before the Ordained then used their powers to destroy the oar. The estruction of the Styx had the sid effect of cutting the Abyss off from Quelmar, leaving Ratatrosk as the Last Demon in the realm, a title he took great pride in. Ratatrosk was then betrayed and attacked by the Ordained. Beaten and wounded, Ratatrosk managed to escape into the wastes of the first layer of the Ten Hells, Duumal, before being captured by the Pit Fiend Bel.
Bel then sold Ratatrosk to the Lord of Dis, Dispater, in return for powerful war machines, where Dispater then imprisoned Ratatrosk in the lowest levels of Ironfell Prison, guarded by the prison's warden, the Chain Devil Zuul. He was eventually rescued by the adventuring team, the Hellraisers who had been searching for him at the behest of the Archangel Gabriel. Ratatrosk helped the party escape Ironfell Prison, only for the city to go into lockdown. But before he could abandon the party, the hellraisers placed a celestial control collar on him, making it impossible to move more then 30 feet away from the party's warlock, Aliria Servine. Ratatrosk promised to tell the party everything he knew, in return for the party getting him out of Dis and away from Dispater's reach.
After fleeing to the third layer of the Hells, Minarous, the party demanded answers. Ratatrosk shared his part in Charon's death and told the party about the Cult of the Shattered Mountain and the Ordained. He shared that each member of the Ordained possessed a rune imbued with the magic of the Shattered Mountain, and how since it was this magic that was used to destroy the oar, if one gathered all the runes together, they could use the runes to recreate the oar. Ratatrosk traveled with the party as they hunted down members of the Ordained, begging the party to free him from the collar every chance he had.
When the party was in Nessus, Aliria was forced by her patron, Glasya, to give control of Ratatrosk's celestial collar over to her. In a deadly battle, the party managed to recover the key connected to Ratatrosk's collar before fleeing to Minarous, with Ratatrosk of the brink of death.
Ratatrosk then traveled to Dis with the party, where in a deal with the devil Belphegor, the party agreed to help Belphegor overthrown Dispater. Ratatrosk offered to provide a distraction for the party, and was finally able to convince the Hellraisers to free him from the celestial collar. Ratatrosk, now returned to his full power, summoned an army of infernal rats and began to cause chaos all throughout Dis.
Ratatrosk continued to travel with the party deeper into the Hells and even all the way to Hellmar. Ratatrosk would help the party fight their way through the infernal citadel Kashtar-Val. But when the Ordained's ritual to summon the Shattered Mountain was successful, and Ratatrosk was awestruck by the monstrous goddess. Seeing her as an avatar of pure destruction, Ratatrosk did not hesitate to abandon the Hellraisers and promise himself to the Shattered Mountain hoping to join her in the destruction of the realms in order to create a world where the vermin rule.
Ratatrosk would eventually be confronted by the Hellraisers in Malbolge atop the rising body of the Shattered Mountain. After a quick scuffle though, Ratatrosk was trapped and banished back to the Abyss.
Powers and Abilities
Ratatrosk has the ability to summon hordes of rats as well as inflict creatures with infectious diseases. His "fangs" are coated with countless poisons and plagues that are near lethal to any creature harmed by his daggers, even those normally immune to such toxins.
