Tapestry[edit | edit source]
The Unravel is a thieves guild operating within a network of tunnels underneath the city of Ravel. As a guild, they are a major player present during the events of the Fantasial Freeze. Their members are colloquially known as 'Acrobats' and they utilize a similarly themed code to obfuscate their words when communicating about the guild and their agenda.
The Unravel's goal to date is total control of Ravel, by whatever means necessary. As the Freeze has set in and many people are running out of food or fuel to stay warm, the Unravel have been working behind the scenes to turn the suffering of the masses to their advantage. Their current tactic is to stockpile food and blankets within their own territory and sell them at exorbitant prices to the shivering townsfolk. This makes them enemies of other factions within the city, although they do have a working relationship with Xilas LaCroix. They are strongly opposed to the fire cult that has been burning fields out in the Fransa Sig.
The Unravel's skullduggerous methods have brought them into conflict with some heroes of the realm, such as Luv and Six, over the direction the city must go. Rumors also abound of an internal fracture, as some members question how deep into depravity the guild must plunge, seemingly unperturbed as to the apocalyptic nature of the Arctic Autumn.
As the Arctic Autumn drew on, The Unravel grew closer to their goal of running the city and struck when the opportunity presented itself. After the death of Mayor Barry during the Sorghum Festival, the then leader of the guild, Aiken Zimmerman, took over as the new mayor of Ravel. All the while, serving his own interests more than the city's.
With Aiken burning the candle at both ends, the guild found themselves more disorganized than ever. In an effort to prevent the Blowt from further invading the city and exacting their 'vengeance' on the citizens, the Unravel made a deal with a faction in Balabag. In return they received a magical artifact known as "The Pelorus" that could track the location of Blowt attempting to surface from Orbis and locate their intended target. Aiken and The Unravel used this device to successfully prevent the blowt from emerging when they could by assassinating the blowt's target first. Without a target the Blowt had no reason to appear, that was the theory anyway. These actions fed into the cycle of vengeance that was being driven by the Bhéara, and when an acrobat took out the targeted civilian, they in turn were targeted by the vengeful spirit of their mark. With the guilds members at an all time low, there weren't many left to assist during the Blowt assault on the city.
While Aiken fought in the battle against the Blowt, he slipped away during the fray, leaving the rest of the battle to the heroes of the realm and other notable acrobats who stayed to fight. Without a leader and a city full of rubble, most members turned to petty theft at every opportunity only continuing the chaos.
When the Ravel reconstruction efforts finally began, the network of tunnels that the guild utilizes was now sharing the space with a soon to be booming entertainment district. A motion proposed by Ravii Kero, who had earned himself the title of "The Negotiator" within the Unravel. This new district will be a tourist hotspot for the city of Ravel, full of casinos, taverns, and brothels. With the guild running the tables and skimming some funds off the top of course. It was during these months of proposals and re-building efforts that Aiken made his re-appearance, and with him he brought the information that a vampire sent from La Croix was the true identity of the investor that was bankrolling the majority of Ravels reconstruction projects. Knowing this would be Aiken's last job as the leader of the Unravel, he passed the mantle to Red, a harengon who up until that moment had been trying to leave the guild. By becoming a target of La Croix's ire, Aiken ousted the vampire in front of the reconstruction council, and while the city lost their largest investor, it was freed from the financial chains of La Croix.
