Lathander the Morninglord is a neutral-good demigod aspect of the major deity Pelor. Lathander represents the wholesome love of family and unity that Pelor nurtured, as well as the domains of vitality, youth, and renewal.

Other titles Lathander has held include Commander of Creativity, Inspiration's Dawn, and The God of Rose and Gold.

Followers and Practices[edit | edit source]

Leaders of Lathander were known as Dawnmasters. Sailing vessels of Lathander were called "Morning Rays",

Eve[edit | edit source]

The term "Eve" was considered a swear among the clergy, as followers of Lathander held their funerals at sunset. Because death and evening were interlinked in Lathander worship---it was said that "All Things Lathander Die to the Eve". Followers of Lathander also made sure to fall asleep before Sunset, lest they ever witness the evening with their own eyes.

Sayings[edit | edit source]

Many sayings and psalms can be found in the "Hymns of the Dawn" bibles found around the realm.

  • "From death, life."
  • "There is always another dawn."
  • "In the dawn, beauty reigns, and the way is clearer."

Prayers[edit | edit source]

Prayers are based on focusing the light of the gods. They are a lens for his rays.

"Bring the glory of the sun to all dark places of the world.

Shine a light to banish all that lives in the shadows.

The bring the searing light of Lathander to the dark corners of Quelmar"

Dogma[edit | edit source]

"Strive always to aid, to foster new hope, new ideas, and new prosperity for all residents of the realm. Perfect thyself, and guard ever against pride, for it is a sacred duty to foster new growth, nurture growing things, and work for rebirth and renewal. Be fertile in mind and body. Consider always the consequences of thine actions so that the least effort may bring the greatest and best reward. Wherever you go, sow seeds of plants, tend the growing things you find, and plant seeds of hope, new ideas, and plans for a rosy future in the minds of all. Whenever possible, see each dawn and avoid each eve"

History[edit | edit source]

Lathander was created during The Fractured Dawn when Pelor was split by Lolth into splintered fragments of his original power. Each splinter became a god in its own right, with Lathander being the name given to the splinter of family, youth, and love.

Lathander made his first appearance to the realm during The Holy War, sending down an avatar to the realm to do battle against the Cult of the Dragon.

The Churches of Lathander and Helm were known to have a number of healthy skirmishes, with the churches often competing to recruit followers from similar pools of mortals.

A relic of Lathander fell into the ocean when a group of halfling clerics were ambushed by at some point in 10 PR, and when it's located was divined, many factions attempted to pull it from the ocean's bed, including The Rattzias and The OathWielders (working on the orders of Scua's School of Shadows) The Artifact was said to have the power to "banish darkness and reveal spies"

Though Lathander's power was eventually reunited with the other splinters during Realm War I, Lathander would continue to exist as an aspect of Pelor, acting under Pelor as a demigod, and still granting power, miracles, and prayers to followers----who may or may not realize that they are clerics of Pelor in the big picture.
