Pterran were a precursor race to the reptilian folk of Quelmar, including Lizardfolk, Troglodytes, Tortles, Yuan-Ti, and Kobolds. .
About
Pterrans stand rougly six feet tall, and have light brown scales for skin. Alongside their two arms and legs, Pterrans have a prehensile tail and bulbous snout. Though their mouths are beak like, they do have many, many teeth, as well as claws.
The Pterran people thrived in hot climates due to their cold-blooded biology, and as such were mostly found in their namesake continent of Pteris.
By the early BR era, the populations of Pterran-descended creatures had vastly outnumbered pure blooded Pterrans, and by the turn of the PR era, Pterran were considered a legacy race, only existent in the bloodlines they passed on.
Society
Pterrans are a nomadic tribal people, who seek a connection with the land and its people. Unlike modern Lizardfolk, they are not quick to violence, and have a shaman-esque demeanor. However, the Pterran people do not value lofty spiritual bonds, but rather bonds of strength, and many Pterrans become powerful warriors. Bravery is a favorable trait for Pterrans, as is forgiveness.
Pterrans revere Pteris, and are superstitious about natural events such as earthquakes, determining that they are messages from the "Earth Mother" to the realm's creatures.
Pterran culture has structured three determined life paths that almost all Pterran follow: "The Warrior's Path", "The Druid's Path", and "The Magician's Path". Many who chose the Warriors Path eventually bred with and passed their bloodline into the Lizardfolk and Troglodytes of the realm. Those who followed the Druids path found themselves passing their lineage onto Tortles, while Magicians would intermingle with Yuan-Ti and Kobolds, who also shared a reverence for magical power.
Pterrans particularly fear the Thri-Kreen, who share the Pteris ecosystem.
