Asger an adventurer in the Greedy Green and council member in the Protectors of the People, taking the seat of the Scales. Currently missing in action. Last seen in the lair of Tranquil the Terrible before being engulfed by darkness. No contact has been able to be established since his disappearance. Presumed dead.

Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]

Asger stands head and shoulders above many of those who are in his company; however, despite his towering size, he never causes those around him to feel small. A kind, welcoming expression usually adorns his face and when locking gaze with his icy blue eyes, one often finds themselves filled with a deep peace.

Asger's pale white skin is embellished with deep blue tattoos of intricate Celtic knots, weaving together across the entirety of his skins surface. A similar deep blue climbs up from his extremities from years of exposure to harsh climates. His hair is as white as snow. The sides of his head are shaved while the hair left on the top remains short and well kept. His beard being long and braided, clamped in place with ornate rings of blue featuring golden inlays. The same designs are seen on his simple wooden shield, which he carries draped across his back along with a hand axe and his pack filled with medical supllies. A long simple spear is his weapon of choice, however, he only turns to it in absolute need; preferring peace and conversation over violence and death.

Asger dresses himself in warm fur clothing, only gathered with the greatest respect from those who have passed naturally. Hidden beneath his outer garb lies strong armour, slightly inhibiting his naturally athletic movement.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Asger always carries a quiet, stoic demeanor only speaking when he deems his words to be of true value. Injustice of any kind quickly breaks his silence and calls him into action to come to the aide of the oppressed. Asger has devoted his life to the protection and service of others believing that through assisting others, he may be able to escape the darkness that constantly gnaws at his mind.

Asger is not a secretive man, however, he is also not one to over share. When in his company for some time, one can see the extent of his internal pain, displaying itself in the need to seclude himself, even if just for a short time. During these moments of seclusion he attempts to reestablish his roots of Hermitism, trying to find internal balance and remind himself of beauty to be found in selflessly giving. Above all he desires peace and companionship yet simultaneously he is pulled to turn from the path of compassion that he has chosen for himself.

History[edit | edit source]

Born in the quiet solitude of the Bleakfrost Mountains, Asger's Childhood was filled with freedom and peace. Scattered across the mountain ranges are various groupings of goliath-folk hermits. The Snærr family settled in a particular isolated peak, which was know as the Unresting Summit.

Once he was of age, Asger enrolled into the School of Peace Clerics of Bleakfrost. Along with his usual studies, he scoured the ancient texts of the Mountain. His people had great respect and care for history and encouraged any and all to pour over the texts, so as the mistakes of the past generations would not become the downfall of future ones.

The legends spoke of a great evil that had escaped from the darkness of the Abyss. The Abyssal drake; Moirmiodeog, The Voiceless One. Moirmiodeog ravaged the lands below the high peaks of Bleakfrost. Cities razed to the ground, villages burned, vass amounts of people left with nothing. Many of whom were seduced to ways of darkness by the The Voiceless One. The Peace Clerics of Bleakfrost offered refuge to those displaced by the fiends destruction, as they themselves banded together in an effort to put an end to the beasts terror.

After years of constant struggle and countless deaths, the Clerics were able to atlast achieve victory. Luring the beast into the mountains were it was weakend from the extreme cold. Moirmiodeog was sealed away in the icy caverns below the Bleakfrost peaks, where he was to be soon forgotten by the passing of time. Forgotten by all but those who witnessed his destruction firsthand. The Clerics of Bleakfrost appointed themselves as the guardians of the beast below the mountains.

Legends passed on, ancient texts remembering the heroism of those before, so that none could forget. To the rest of the world it was but a distant story of times past. To the Peace Clerics of Bleakfrost it was their unending duty to guard the beast imprisoned below the mountain. To constantly remember the darkness that once thrived in the lands, to ensure it could never return to power again.

The burden of guarding the Voiceless One weighed heavy on those tasked with it. Though contained, it's power had not lessened. Without voice, it spoke. Without speech, it turned hearts to a path of darkness. Though Moirmiodeog was voiceless, it called out with the endless number of voices of those it slew or those who turned to its darkness. It's dark, seductive whispers perforated the stone of the mountain and the minds of the hermit folk. Tempting them to turn away from peace, love and harmony. To release it from it's imprisonment and to bow the knee to the Voiceless One and serve it for the rest of their living and dieing days.

After completing his studies at the school of clerics, Asger himself was tasked with guarding the sealed stone door of Moirmiodeog's prison. During this time, Asger began to hear the whispers of the Voiceless One more clearly. The words gnawing at his mind like the frost at his fingertips. He was promised great power and extraordinary wealth, if he were to only lift the seal of peace that bound Moirmiodeog and release him once more.

As was the custom of the Clerics of Bleakfrost, his time of guarding the imprisoned Moirmiodeog was quickly over. Even the strongest of heart could only withstand the temptations of the Voiceless One for but a time.

Now, Asger finds himself on a pilgrimage of self discovery. Desiring to escape from the voices that still linger in his head, yearning to experience the beauty and love of the world, and trying to create and share in peace with all he meets.

Languages[edit | edit source]

Asger grew up speaking the language of Giants among his family and members of his enclave. His mother taught him the common tongue when he was a boy, for as she said "So you, Asger, can one-day share with any who may stop to listen, your unyielding desire for peace and truth."

Snærr learned to read and understand Abyssal speech in his studies with the Peace Clerics of Bleakfrost, assisted by his fellow clerical instructors and students. He sought to understand the voice in his head, to put meaning to the words that haunted his wake and sleep. However, he has grown to question this decision, not knowing if understanding the voice that spoke to him has caused him more pain or a stronger ability to resist it.

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Specialized in bolstering the effectiveness of those in his company, providing powerful auras and bonds to deepen the connection between those at peace with each other. Refusing to leave the vulnerable or wounded behind, his medical supplies and expertise are his first "weapon" of choice.

Attacks and Weapons [edit | edit source]

Asger carries with him a long, simple spear which he mainly uses as a walking stick to ensure his footing along treacherous terrain. Along with this, he carries a shield to better protect himself or others as well as a simple, yet, ornately designed hand axe.

Sep 29 - The Shadow Giant

My dear Family.

First of all, I am well, I know you are worried. I have been as well since leaving home. But, as we have all deemed true, this is a necessary journey for me and I will continue on with purpose.

Soon after beginning my journey, I ended up near the small town of Seglock. I soon found use of myself and was protecting and assisting townsfolk in their transition to the adjacent town in search of sanctuary after recent attacks. Along the road, I was able to administer relief to the sick and injured. During our travels we took rest at a small way station along the route.

This night, I found myself slipping into a corner of an overcrowded inn, trying my best to remain unnoticed. You can both recall how I struggle to loosen my tongue while others do so boldly. As the result of some bizarre circumstances, I found myself in the company of an assorted cast of adventures. One by one they came and joined my secluded corner. First came a large friendly Bugbear who attempted a living by peddling pumpkins. There was a Yuan-Ti who constantly spoke of how evil he was, but you know, I kinda found him to be a friendly fellow... Although, he does talk about his mother alot, and also seemingly talks to nothing. I believe that it is his sword, which he refers to as Slat, that they are trying to communicate with. Rather eccentric

Soon we were joined by two humanfolk. A stoic paladin and a crossbow wielding welcome. Following soon after them was a large, boisterous fellow. Him and the Bugbear seemed to be in an unknown competition in which the winner was decided by who could speak the loudest and longest about entirely nothing. Eventually though the man did seem to surrender in the competition as he eventually brought to attention the matter of giant moths, occult activities, and three large, black dragons eggs; of which he claimed to be the father of. I was a bit intrigued in the matter and unfortunately locked gaze with the man which he must have taken as an agreement with his request for help. Soon I found myself leaving with the entire table and trodding off into the forrest with a belly full of ale and in the company of those I had just met.

Thanks to the help of a small Kobold ranger we met along the way, we were able to track the location of an ensuing occult ritual. Without hesitation, my new comrades charged into the frey. I was enthralled by the magnificent wielding of their swords or the precision in which they could loose arrows, seeming to slay huge beasts in but a few swings or bolts. I am not ashamed to admit that I was hesitant in my first moves, but I do feel as though I served of use and assisted the group in a shared victory.

After the unpredictable events of that night, I was invited by Drang, the Bugbear, to accompany him to his organizations secret hideout. With the use of my healing, I was able to spare the cultist leader Gregory from deaths door, whom I then carried back with me so that answers could be extracted from him.

Drang invited me to join the organization which is called the Protectors of the People. I humbly accepted, I am happy to serve with a group whose cores and values of service to the people to further self reliance and resilience from oppression.

Not long after, I found myself occupying a seat on the newly formed council tasked with representing the members within the organization and speaking for, providing aid to, and preventing further attacks upon the people. The seat I occupy is that of The Scales, tasked specifically with defensive responsibilities as well as providing medical care and spreading medical knowledge amongst the people.

I am truly honored to so quickly have a position in which my uses can be made the most of. Through the collective efforts of the Protectors of the People, I believe that truly great things can be done. Hopefully we will be able to return some sense of normality to their lives. I know my work will never be done, but I will continue on with it, now with the support of my companions.

Although adventuring or positions of leadership were not the purpose of my journey, I was thrust head first into them. However, I accept my new path willingly. I will continue my help amongst the people whenever I can; but as I desire to be of greater impact, I will attempt to seek out and extinguish those wishing to control through the oppression of the innocent.

I will write again soon,

By all means, Peace.

Asger

Aug 8 - The Gnome and the Dragon

The adventures don't seem to cease. Today I came face to face with a golden dragon. Outside of Sneerwell, joined a humble adventuring party who was hired by Yosser Squigglesong, a small fellow with a comically large hat. Yossef formed the party claiming to be an archeologist aiming to recover priceless artifacts from an abandoned tomb.

However, upon reaching the tomb the party grew suspicious of the gnome's story. Successfully navigating through hallways of traps and rooms containing elemental walls of steam, ice, rain and fire, the group eventually came upon a final set of large double doors. Opting for the element of surprise, we burst through the doors into the large tomb.

At the center of the room rested an elevated altar. Above the altar were two stalactites, which dripped down into golden horns, which in turn collected and transported the water into a small pool around the altar. A large golden dragon egg was resting in the pool, shaking and twitching as it grew near to hatching.

Rushing into the center of the room, the gnome began shouting and screaming for someone or something to reveal themselves. Soon a large monstrous green creature came clambering down the wall. Quickly she changed from this form into that of a woman, who I learned to be Brenna Towenson, the former leader of my new organization the Protectors of the People.

Our group listened as Yosser and Brenna exchanged words. The Gnome spoke of how she slaughtered his people and destroyed his village. The woman spoke of how it was necessary for the weak to die to allow for the strong to persist. Fueled by his quest for revenge, Yosser called a lighting bolt upon Brenna and launched the group into combat.

Brenna changed form again, this time into an enormous golden dragon. Throughout the battle she could foresee the future and banish individuals from her presence. Her powerful breath attacks put several of our party on death's door, myself being one of them. Ultimately, we were able to survive the beast and bring an end to her.

As we went to investigate the egg, time slowed and seemed to stop and the egg disappeared from Infront of us, shortly returning in an unoccupied corner of the room. Alongside it appeared five warforged, Disciples of Sardior. They claimed they needed to secure the egg, prevent its hatching for the time being, and possibly bring about the return of the long dead topaz dragon, Tuschallo.

The combat was grueling but our rewards for it were of great value. I donated most of my share to the Protectors of the People to further our effectiveness in the area. I believe we will be instrumental in preventing further evil from coming into this world.

Speaking with the disciples, we were able to learn more of the imminent danger of the One Who Waits, the Obsidian dragon, and the three unaccounted for black dragon eggs. I do not know much on this matter, but from what I have learned, they do pose a great threat to this world and the people of it.

We were able to preserve and recover the dragon's head with the intention of communicating with her to extract answers. I do not know if any will be found, but hopefully some information can be gained to assist in our collective efforts for peace. A conflict is created in myself with the extent of the violence that must be done in the name of peace.

By all means, Peace…
