And many of these renowned figures went to some of these prestigious academies for magic, music, knowledge, and adventure! This list includes schools, colleges, conservatories, and more.

Isonhound

Deroulex's Select Conservatory of the Arcane

Founded in 734 BR by the owlin Captain Deroulex Dapplewing and five Swirled Dragons, Deroulex is one of Isonhound's premiere magical academies where they emphasis on applying the theories and practices of magic to everyday life as opposed to spell craft for knowledge's sake only. Existing in a demiplane accessible through a gateway outside of the city of Seglock, Deroulex is broken into five seperate colleges: the Quandrix College of Theory, the Witherbloom College of Nature, the Prismari College of Fine Art, the Silverquill College of the Oratory, and the Lorehold College of History. here all forms of magic are studied and Deroulex is notable for being the birthplace of some of Quelmar's most famous spells.

Seglock University

Sometimes referred to as the heart and soul of Seglock, Seglock University in Isonhound is a flagship institution of learning on the continent, famous for its business schools and its alchemical institution, spearheading alchemical science in Quelmar.

Champerty was a kingdom founded entirely on education and magic, and had many, many schools in its short existence.

University of Xyrneiros

The University of Xyrneiros is a magical academy built on an artificially and magically created island off the northern coast of Osugbo in Glendoveer. Accessible to the mainland via a causeway that opens at low tide, the university is connected to the small town of Presmarivale which sprung up to support the university and its students. Founded in 28 PR atop an old Realm War Outpost, the univserity was originally created to train Glendoveer mages for the war, but later transitioned into becoming a larger and more open arcane institution. The many colleges it teaches include the main schools of magic, minus necromancy, clerical studies, restoration and healing magic, artifice, and psionics. Due to its position in heavily contested territory throughout the ages of Quelmar, the university has had a tumultuous history.

Briarbank College

Situated in the center of Briar Green, Briarbank College stands as one of Newfaire’s most esteemed institutions of higher education. The expansive campus is surrounded by flowering boulevards, meticulously maintained parks, and ivy-covered academic halls that have become emblematic of the district. Briarbank provides a notably comprehensive curriculum, encompassing departments such as archaeology, classical studies, aerospace engineering, applied sciences, literature, and the fine arts. The college is recognized for producing distinguished engineers, scholars, diplomats, and researchers throughout the Known World, a distinction supported by its strong affiliations with influential civic and industrial organizations. As of 38 CR, the university is under the leadership of President Rowan Leiva (they/them), a prominent historian and advocate for educational reform who is noted for maintaining Briarbank’s traditional prestige while promoting access to emerging academic disciplines.

The district of Briar Green is regarded as the most verdant and affluent area within Newfaire. Encompassing Briarbank College and containing the majority of the city’s public parks, the district features streets lined with flowering trees, ornamental gardens, and expansive historic residences owned by established families, political leaders, and industrial elites. Most Briarbank students originate either from Briar Green or from The Eaves, an exclusive rooftop community constructed atop exposed Oldfairen structures above the city. The Eaves ranks among Newfaire’s wealthiest districts and houses the residence of the Premier. Consequently, Briarbank maintains significant social and financial barriers to entry for the average citizen. Nevertheless, a limited number of students from less privileged districts have gained admission through scholarships, sponsorships, or exceptional academic performance, including the first student from South Soffit, Riley Lemmon.

Briargreen Preparatory Academy

Briargreen Preparatory Academy is a prestigious private secondary school situated in the Briar Green district of Newfaire. Recognized as the leading preparatory institution in the city, the academy is distinguished by its rigorous academic standards, meticulously maintained campus, and longstanding affiliation with Briarbank College. Admission to Briargreen Prep is often considered an early pathway to influence and prestige, particularly among Newfaire’s political, industrial, and affluent social circles. The academy offers a comprehensive curriculum that integrates classical education with advanced scientific disciplines, including literature, mathematics, engineering theory, history, rhetoric, and the arts. Its extracurricular offerings are also highly regarded, with notable programs such as the debate society, fencing club, and a championship-winning gymnastics team.

Owing to its high tuition and exclusive reputation, Briargreen Prep has traditionally been inaccessible to a significant portion of Newfaire’s population, particularly residents of districts such as South Soffit. Riley Lemmon’s admission is therefore especially noteworthy. As the first student from South Soffit to enroll at the academy, Riley was awarded a full academic scholarship based on outstanding examination performance. Although initially perceived as an outsider by some students and parents, Riley soon excelled both academically and athletically, joining the school’s gymnastics team. Her presence at the academy continues to be cited in discussions of educational inequality in Newfaire and the limited opportunities available to students from economically disadvantaged districts.

Laergul

Located in Jewelspar, Laergul is the largest Bard college in the city. Established in 812 BR, Laergul is home to several bard colleges including: the College of Lore, the College of Glamour, the College of Whispers, and the College of Valor. The school has plans to expand its offerings though in the future by creating a College of Creation and a College of Eloquence. On the field, the students are known as the "Laergul Lyrics." Laergul has several sports offered including jousting, archery, wrestling, among others where they will often compete against other universities. Famous for its gothic artitecture and black granite walls, the campus is often covered in a thin layer of fog. The campus is large enough to feel like a city in and of itself, and the entire campus is guarded against divination by an artifact known as the Censer of Glittergolden Eyes, a holy relic of Garl Glittergold.

Al'Adeaf University

Founded in 691 PR and located in the ever-sinking city of Al'Adeaf, Al'Adeaf University is the most prominent institution of higher education in the city. Dedicated to teaching trade and philosophy, this school produce many of the city's greatest leaders. Many know it for the famous Pulverfass Pub where students share stories and debate ideologies while drinking strange arcane ales, and for its support from the Julius Sawback Foundation which would provide many scholarships for new students.

Located in the town of Seawell, Seawell is a small but busy academic institution on the Dolina Penninsula, being one of the only schools for higher learning in the swampy region. The school offers courses in shipping, agriculture, smithing, music, and some minor arcane magic.

Gulfithorp Isles

College of Saisin

Located in on the island of Capsicum in the Gulfithorp Isles, the College of Saisin is not your typical university. Most of the college is housed within a large stone tower at the top of a high cliff overlooking the island, with a small settlement at its base. The college is noted for being the keepers of "the Knowledge." And what is "the Knowledge" you may ask? Well, it is all the past information you could ever want, from the weather, to history, to birthdays, to death days, to the tides and beyond. There is so much information, that the unprepared risk going mad. The college doesn't have students as much as it does positions. Initiates start as Pages, doing simple choirs and errands for the ranks above. The only way to rise in the ranks is if you are either proven worthy, or the position above you opens up when another member passes on. From there they can become Turners, to Markers, to Keepers. The Dean of the college is the master of "the Knowledge" known as the Encyclopedia. Though no one actually knows who the encyclopedia actually is...

Katharda Academy

During the War of Many Names, many of Quelmar's greatest spellcasters and institutions were destroyed by the forces of the Draqon Queen Tiamat. Knowing that the future of Quelmar might be at stake, the wealthy archmage (and secret Amethyst Dragon) Venaleth brought together the remnents on many of these instituions and greated one grand school for the magically gifted. For the saftey of the school and its students, the school was constructed deep underground in the Underdark. here students could study in peace away from the threat of dragons, though the Underdark posed its own unique dangers. The academy is broken up into four schools: Geodaury which strives to study the balance of nature and magic, Vigilin which studies the magic of divination as well as the divine and unholy, Psyhex which studies the secrets of the mind, and Tinkeryore which studies the magic of artifice and constructs.
