Seglock is a city in Isonhound which served as a base of operations early on in The War of Many Names for adventurers to hone their crafts and protect the large influx of refugees caused by the ongoing onslaught of Dragons. It is home to Seglock University as well as a temple of the Lunarans, followers of the moon and Eros the Crystal Dragon.
About[edit | edit source]
This city is run by a mayor and has a city guard. There are a lot of refugees seeking protection from the depredations of the Dragons. Drakkoths and various other monsters surround area. During early 826 PR, the Moonwell at the Lunaran temple produced a city-encompassing dome which Dragons could not penetrate.
The city is predominantly Human, even with the influx many different Races into the city as a result of the Dragon conflict. There is a lot of wealth in the city due to the presence of Seglock University and the tenure of its legions of professors. There also is an influx of coin into the local economy from students drinking large amounts of alcohol in town due to the prohibition of alcohol on campus (this restriction does not extend to professors and staff, however, likely due to the work stress of dealing with such a large student body).
Notable Places[edit | edit source]
Drang's Cart o' Pumpkins
A donkey cart of never-ending pumpkins that was owned and operated by Drang, a Bugbear of fighting prowess and loquacious of speech. Often found near the Iron Eyrie, but sometimes not. This is really a place that is not so much a physical location, but more of a metaphysical concept illuminating…no, it is a mobile pumpkin shack.
The Fighter's Forge
A licensed pit-fighting establishment that commonly puts forth competitors into the Tournament of Fist and Fury.
Gag Order
This is a muzzle shop owned by Linden Rue offering a great selection of muzzles of all sorts and having even branched out to gags made of wood.
Garden of the Fallen
This memorial garden gives a place to remember those who fell defending the realm from the scourge of the Dragons. There is a large memorial commemorating all of the people lost, be they noble, present, or adventurer wreathed in a forget-me-not vine. This large plant blooms year-round and stays green and vibrant year-round. There are a growing number of statuaries added to the garden commemorating heroes who fell fighting Dragons and other threats to the common good.
Home of the Band of the Iron Hawks, this guildhall is located in the heart of the Heartland District. It features a large guildhall as well as private rooms. They have an armory and smithy attached, as well as an alehouse where they sell their unique beer.
- All That Ales You: This is a small bar area that is open to the public in an almost separate building outside the general outline of the guildhall itself. The guild maintains this location to have meetings with non guild-members as well as for selling its premier Iron City Ale.
The Rusty Spoon
A dingy bar located not too far from the Iron Eyrie.
This is a relic of the Lunaran people that was set up by some adventurers to keep away the depredations of passing Dragons. Seems to have no effect on Dragonborn or Dracohydras. It does keep Dragons and whales at least a mile away from the city. The exact location in the city was originally a mystery before its activation at the centrally-based Lunaran temple.
Murder Hobo (or Homeowner) Pit of Fighting
A local licensed pit fighting establishment. This is a great way for those who swing swords to have something to swing at that is not some unsuspecting merchant or refugee. In the month-long series of battles, many participants have amassed a fortune. Many more have amassed an impressive number of scars and bruises. Of course, to sooth those bruises, many pit fighters turn to booze, which recycles that amassed fortune back into the local pub economy.
Tristram's Center of the Living Arts (TCLA)
This is a center that hosts many different types of the bardic arts from song, storytelling, rhetoric and many disciplines in-between. This large multi-theater building was reported to be a gift from an entity called the Curator who had it built in a single night by some sort of magical process. This Curator appears to have made this happen due to Tristram's help in neutralizing Horatio Cheshire during the assault on the Shadow Forge. The building itself often seems to be alive generally follows the commands of its owner. There is reported to be a vault somewhere in the building that holds many instruments and songbooks of power and interest. Others say it is an empty room awaiting fulfillment. Regardless of the functions and decor on the internal rooms, this became a center for arts and entertainment in the city.
Seglock Library
Refugees from the Lunaran tribe out of Hallasen were brought to live temporarily here during the Drakkoth sieges of the north in 825 PR.
Lock & Keg Tavern
One of the city's taverns, operated by a satyr named Rory
Trout's Toe
Small bar that has had some explosive entertainment. If you need to let off steam, the Monk's Mosh Pit is a great way, short of entering the Murder Hobo Pit of Fighting.
Notable Events[edit | edit source]
This gala was formed to thank the various adventures from around Isonhound for assisting the locals of Seglock. These activities ranged from protecting not just the refugees who had fled to the city, but also shielding the population of Seglock from the growing threat of Dragons. This gala features many vendors and activities that including the crowning of the "Tin Chef," winner of a cooking contest.
An event that didn't actually take place in Seglock, as the city is not located on the plane of Shadowfell. If it had, there would be a lot fewer living refugees. Although it did not take place in the city proper, it is included as this was the fall of Horatio Cheshire and the end of his reign of terror over the city and its people.
Notable People[edit | edit source]
Balgeiros Quodrephostir the Elixir Merchant
Balgeriros (Bal to his friends) has the finest selection of herbal remedies from the Feywild to cure what ails you and possibly a few things that didn't (patent pending). If you are not sure if anything ails you, try a flask of nearly area-famous Eladrin Ale, and get a flask of conjectural-hangover-be-gone at half price. A Wood Elf or some sort of Elf, although his origins are a little obscured.
An Eladrin merchant and private citizen whose title of Baron is completely honorary. Rumor has it that he holds lots of sex parties and has many people wanting to kill him. They were most likely never invited to the parties.
Professor Galloway
A Human professor from Seglock University. One of the only professors to interact with the town during the attack on the university when adventurers saved his life and the lives of several students.
A Human who was responsible for the deaths of many local citizens due to using his alchemical skills to create a mutated series of Orcs and Goblins. He culminated in taking over the Shadow Forge, which caused the Curator to send a company of adventurers to deal with him. He is currently not living, his remains having been devoured by a riding beast that he created called a "Nope."
The Satyr barkeep of the Locke & Key Tavern.
Mayor Towson
Mayor of Seglock.
Captain Visio
Captain of the Seglock city guard.
Thornin
A dwarf who offered spellcasting services.
