Banites are worshippers of the evil god Bane, and are regularly also referred to as The Cult of Bane.

Organization[edit | edit source]

Banite sects are led by a blue-haired leader known as an Ulgon of Bane. If an Ulgon is killed, the next most qualified Banite dyes their hair (or wears a wig) and takes up the title of Ulgon.

Modus Operandi[edit | edit source]

Banites, especially higher ranking banites, often had access to Wands of Magic Missiles, which allowed them to fight off their enemies with little to no risk as the magic missiles decimated their foes without fail.

History[edit | edit source]

Elemental Tools of the Apocalypse[edit | edit source]

At some point before 465 PR, the cult of bane discovered or was led to believe that the Tools of the Primordial Ancients were still extant. That is to say, they were not destroyed in the War of Essence like many scholars believed, and were stashed in hidden places around the realm. Of the tools, the Banites were most concerned with the Crown of Empyrosis, which would give their religion the power to burn down all who opposed Bane, both mortals and gods.

In 465 PR, a banite named Sukuzana del Basso in Rue Delour discovered the Crown's owner, passing this message along secretly to the others.

  • the crown resides with the calfenris clan. i have spotted the young artist wearing the crown while he paced in his own household. he is young and in a very precarious position. my husband has formed a deal with the artist painting portraits and letting radonis claim credit. but I do not know if it is safe to attack yet. the boy has shown no mastery over the crowns powers which means we may be able to take it with little fight. but if I am wrong we risk the destruction of one of the cult’s major bases of operations. i will have updates soon.

Shortly after this message went out, Radonis was killed by said Crown, and in the resulting havoc, the banites' secret hideout under Rue Delour was raided by the city guards, this first tipped off the Lyreguard to the Crown's power and its possible existence in the city.

The Banites would try to steal the crown and fail during the Empyrosis of the Aegerian Temple, and after failing to claim it in the secrecy of the long night, would publicize its existance, pulling on some connections at the Galik Gazette. This kicked off a realm-wide treasure hunt for the crown, causing considerable difficulty for AFEW, and distracting them enough that they could then ambush the overwhelmed team in the aptly named attack known as The AFEW Ambush.
