Zombie refers to any sort of mindless creature who acts on a basic, animalistic level of decision making. Zombies are typically, but not always, a form of "undeath".

Types of Zombie[edit | edit source]

Raised Zombie[edit | edit source]

A soul-less corpse that has been animated using necromancy such as "Raise Dead" is a very traditional type of Zombie. These creatures have no real purpose or will in life, and if not directly commanded, will just fight for sustenance in the form of Brains.

Underdark Zombies[edit | edit source]

In the Underdark, the Illithid race has created several variations on the typical zombie, neither of them completely undead. Illithids are weak to undead life, as they can not be mind-controlled. The Bleak Academy scholars and scientists created the Gusian Zombie (named for Professor Nguise) and the Drakian Zombie (named for Professor Drake). The former is a living creature with a small organic motor implanted in their head, causing them to respond to telepathic commands and restrict their ability to think or have any agency of their own. The latter is a type of creature who's sanity has been driven to rock bottom, turning them feral and dark with eldritch power---but still technically alive.
