About[edit | edit source]

King of the Vampyres. Not much is known of Edgar's professional arrangements with the exception that he shared some business with the mobster Marid known as Tani-Wa.

History[edit | edit source]

In Life[edit | edit source]

Mathias Edgar La Croix, Jr. was born in 173 BR to Mathias Edgar La Croix, Sr. and Wanda La Croix. Most of Junior’s childhood was spent traveling around Amusa with his family, collecting data and artifacts for his father’s archives.

History was the backbone of the La Croix family. As humanity expanded, as did Senior’s hunger for knowledge. Soon, expeditions with his family became longer and far more dangerous, culminating in the unfortunate demise of Wanda in 188 BR

After taking a brief break from collecting to mourn Wanda’s death, (Senior was interested primarily in the rapid growth of humanity and how it affected other races and early artifacts), the two settled in a town where Senior began work on his text.

While the death of Wanda barely seemed to affect Senior, it left Junior traumatized. So much so that he still, to this day, is unable to recount the true nature of his mother’s death. Being a teenager, his natural coping mechanism was to act out. It started small— stealing rations here and there but quickly escalated to bigger and more expensive things. You see, Junior had a knack for stealing. He was charming and was able to pocket things rather easily. The only reason why he got caught was because he didn’t care about hiding things after he stole them. As new items began to appear in their home, Senior became more and more suspicious of his son’s behavior. It became so

out of control, that the two were eventually banished from the human settlement, but this was only triggered after Senior turned his own son in.

The family found themselves traveling, but this time, as punishment for his past transgressions, Senior decided to settle down with his son in an isolated part of Amusa, away from other humans. During this period of time, Senior lectured his son on the importance of morality. He explained that stealing from another was essentially stealing from all humans. Until his father was satisfied with his progress, they would remain in the wilderness, cut off from everyone else.

To pass the time, Junior devoured every piece of written material his father had ever acquired. Years were spent living peacefully with one another and soon their arguments changed to civilized conversations. Months after his 22nd birthday though, tragedy struck the La Croix family again. While out hunting for dinner with his trusty companion, Ghost, their camp was attacked. The entire place was ransacked and Senior was left for dead.

In his final moments with his son, he explained the importance of the history he collected. He said that these bandits, much like young Junior, stole for selfish reasons. They wished to profit off his work while his intention all along, had been to share everything for free. It was now up to Junior to get it back, but not because of revenge, but because humanity deserves public access to the archive his family spent years creating.

Thus, began Junior’s new mission: it was time to steal the archive back.

In Death[edit | edit source]

On the island of Kiston (Island), Edgar found himself in a precarious position: on the edge of a cliff 1000 feet up. After working with Promissa and her mentor Fermi on an escape plan, Edgar threw all caution to the wind (and the plan out the window) when one of his companions on the island, a brutish woman named Alexias, fell victim to the island's natives. Fighting his hardest to protect Alexi, Edgar was quickly overpowered and thrown off the cliff, to plummet to his death.

As he fell, he prayed for hope, a prayer that he would do anything if his god, or any god, would save his nearly-over life. But as he later learned, the island was in a pocket plane that hid it away from the gods, and the prayers went seemingly unanswered.

He found an old strange weapon on the island called a Two-Tipped Tuck. Which was a rapier like weapon with two prongs at the end instead of one, the prongs being roughly an inch apart. Enemies stabbed by this later iconic weapon were left with piercing holes not unlike the ones received by his bites.

Edgar did research on old Vecnan ruins on the island, and supervised and guided the creation of The Kalachakra, based on what little remaining notes he could find from the vecnan cultist inhabitants.

After the Island[edit | edit source]

It was said in Edgar's diaries, discovered after his death, that he went back to Kiston roughly once a year "To visit an old friend". While there, he struggled with the prospect of turning the wheel again, relocking the island, but quote "Never could, or never would".

Proof of Edgar having revisited the island was proven true when the The Fated Five, including his own grandaughter Eldrina, discovered a carved chamber under the The Crystal City, containing traditional LaCroix-esque mausoleum structures, including a proper grave for one Alexias. The chamber was protected and hidden away from the Dragonkin of the island by a Facti-Curse, a curse meant that only "Those who bear the burden of what was done" could access it. A similar curse was placed on The Kalachakra itself.

Akasha[edit | edit source]

"I am willing to do anything for you, Divine Goddess of Darkness. I will give anything to survive this." - Edgar LaCroix, falling to his death.

When the raised Edgar found himself running out of time, with his necromancer master having just been killed, leaving himself to die by sunset, Edgar found penance in a response from the beyond. In return for perpetual servitude, Edgar would be translated. His undead, two-tipped-tock form now reborn as a creature cursed to sustain his own life with blood, the first Vampyre of the realm. When the Friends of Kragnux sent The Best Around to Tawarakami in 795 PR, they stole from the LaCroix museum there, personally offending Edgar and making an enemy of his empire. In return, Edgar planted false intelligence in the Warforged, telling them that the church planned on re-capturing Warforged units and enslaving them, forcing them to work again as bodyguards (something that Pope Zarachiel had banished).

Personality[edit | edit source]

Edgar is often very quiet and thoughtful around people he doesn't know. When he becomes comfortable around people, he is actually quite chatty. He's intelligent, but more street wise than anything. He's very eager to learn about anything and everything. He's also vain. But you would be too if you looked like Prince Charming.
