The Fractured Dawn was a major event of The Holy War, where the Tiamat-allied Lolth accidentally incurred the short-term death of the major deity Pelor.

About[edit | edit source]

During The Holy War, alliances and enemies among the holy pantheons of Quelmar defined what side of the war you fought on. One popular alliance was that of man and elves, marked by the partnership of Pelor and Corellon.

Knowing that Pelor the god of protection and love would not let their closest allies die in battle, Nerull put a whisper in the ear of Lolth, giving Lolth all the time, place, and way to possibly eliminate Corellon for good. As Lolth prepared their Vengeful Gaze, Pelor pushed against the void to redirect the massive damage onto themselves. From the material plane, it appeared as if the Sun had leapt in front of the moon for a brief second, before the world was plunged into massive darkness.

Lolth's attack had failed, Corellon still stood, but Nerull was more than pleased. With Pelor split by the gaze, Nerull took the unclaimed splinter of Life from the ethereal, making him master over Life AND Death. However, the splinters of Light and Protection appeared to house enough power on their own that soon the realm was introduced to two new deities: Helm and Lathander, who would make themselves known on both the holy battlefields of the gods, and the mortal battlefields on Quelmar.

Aftermath[edit | edit source]

With his newfound power over life, Nerull imposed two curses over the realm: The Curse of Life and The Gone But Not Forgotten Curse. One ensured that the dragons stayed dead, while the other curse redirected any dragon resurrection magic into other vessels, causing a bloodline of immortals across the realm, who Nerull saw as his "chosen people", both dead and alive at the same time.
