About[edit | edit source]
Bryn Shandr is a port city on the Northern tip of Pteris, on the southern side of the Strait of Shandr. The city is populated mostly by Dwarves and Air Genasi who are able to acclimate easily to the windy environment, as the city is commonly subject to downdrafts from both the Llanofeld Mountains to the South and arctic winds coming from Breme to the North. Due to the constant cold winds, the city almost always has snow on the ground, except during summer, where the snow lands and melts immediately, turning all the roads into muddy puddles.
Bryn Shandr is Dwarven for "City on the Hill," named as such as the city is located on the top of a hill at the base of the Llanofelds. To the south of the city there is a large waterfall frequently visited by the cityfolk. The port is built outside the city walls, but is only a 10 minute walk down the hill.
Legend has it that on a day with clear skies, which rarely happens, you can see the flying castles of the Cloud Giants to live above and among the Llanofelds.
History[edit | edit source]
Bryn Shandr was founded in 139 PR after the events of Bedlam in the Badlands as the people of the Badlands and the Swikedom Kingdom realized they needed easier access to the rest of the world. Thus, Bryn Shandr primarily serves caravans that head West of the Fiddleheads to Triboar as well as East down the Oppidan Peninsula, all the way to Jewelspar. The city also serves as a first point of contact for boats traveling to Pteris from Isonhound, and frequently services archaeologists exploring the ruins of Inergos.
The main noble family is the Stormveils, an old estate of Air Genasi that own the port that monitors the Strait of Shandr between Isonhound and Pteris, and also own the primary Caravan Markets as well as the stores that sell carts to travelling Merchants. As of 524 PR, the estate is ruled by Cassian Stormveil, father of Aurora Stormveil, a PC in Temporal Thunder.
Notable Places[edit | edit source]
Stormveil Manor
- The home of the Stormveil Estate
- As of 524 PR, owned by Cassian and Serephine Stormveil, and their two daughters, Vesper and Aurora.
- The estate houses a large vault of artifacts and magic items that Cassian has handpicked from Caravans and Ships passing through the city, some obtained ethically, some obtained less so.
Notable Events[edit | edit source]
In 522 PR, Cassian acquired a depowered shard of the Wand of the Spout which had been stolen from its home in Galik, but realized quickly the extra attention having such an artifact in his possession would, and disposed of the shard with the criminal underbelly of the city. It's current whereabouts are unknown.
Bryn Shandr was set upon by Frost Giants in 524 PR, lead by a Frost Giant named Drufi, who were looking for the shard of the Wand of the Spout allegedly in the possession of Cassian Stormveil. The Giants were dealt with peacefully as they were tricked to believe a Memory Shard also in Cassian's possession was the shard they were looking for, after it was expertly painted blue by Rue and hand delivered by Aurora.
