D'Kacilius Venrai is a Amethyst Dragonborn Hexblade who is solely devoted to his service to Silent, the Arbiter of Death. (Information on your heritage/background/class)

(WIP until I make myself finish this properly)

Physical Appearance

D'Kacilius is an Amethyst Dragonborn, but the constant exposure to death energy has warped his appearance. He has deep black-purple skin, milky sliver eyes, and several dark horns. He commonly wears silvered deep-purple robes with a silver lined cape and purple hooded cloak.

Personality

To most people, D'Kacilius is overeager and dangerous. Described by some as "unhinged", "extreme", a "blind zealot" and much more, even Silent is slightly concerned about D'Kacilius. However, the only thing D'Kacilius cares about is his devotion to the Arbiter of Death.

This is due to his upbringing: For his entire life, D'Kacilius was taught one thing: Complete devotion to the Arbiter of Death through any means. Whether it was through slaughter, sacrifice, profane rituals, or more, all that mattered was true devotion.

In truth, D'Kacilius could be considered naïve, as he hasn't had much experience of society outside of the Whispered Reapers. Upon entering the Greedy Green (and several near-death experiences), D'Kacilius has begun questioning some of these ideals.

However, there is always one thing that D'Kacilius believes in.

"Death is common. Death is inevitable. There are just some who bring it quicker for most, and I am one of them."

History

D'Kacilius is an ancient dragonborn, not in age, but in type.

D'Kacilius' egg was found, abandoned in a cave, next to several extremely aged dragonborn skeletons. His egg lay dormant in an isolated crevice

Two weeks after Silent was released, a group

Languages

D'Kacilius knows the following languages:

  • Common (cause it's Common)
  • Draconic (cause he's a dragonborn)
  • Abyssal (cause death cult/forbidden knowledge reasons)
  • Infernal (also death cult/forbidden knowledge reasons)

Powers and Abilities

D'Kacilius is adept in both magic and martial weaponry.

As a Gem Dragonborn, he is able to sprout spectral wings for limited flight (Gem Flight), breathe and resist pure magic energy (Breath Weapon/Draconic Resistance), and talk telepathically to others (Psionic Mind).

When Silent was released from their prison, D'Kacilius noticed a growth in his magic. He was now able to curse a target, causing his attacks to deal more damage (Hexblade's Curse), and summon stronger weapons into existence to wield against enemies (Pact of the Blade). Additionally, his magical abilities were augmented, allowing him to cast more potent blasts of energy (Agonizing Blast) and further honed his melee fighting capabilities (Hex Warrior/Thirsting Blade).

At range, D'Kacilius usually snipes at targets from afar with pure magical energy (Eldritch Blast), and can also grab a person's soul, preventing them from healing (Chill Touch). He can also scatter groups of energy at range with thunderous power (Shatter).

If things get nasty, D'Kacilius has a variety of close combat defensive spells. He can summon a storm of spectral blades that slash nearby enemies (Sword Burst), conjure frost armor that freezes melee assailants (Armor of Agathys), create a shimmer that makes him harder to hit (Blur), and teleport to safety while leaving behind a disrupting sonic boom (Thunder Step). He is also able to interrupt spells (Counterspell) and remove magical effects (Dispel Magic).

Attacks and Weapons

Previously, D'Kacilius' Hexblade weapon was a glaive. After a fight in Tristram's theater involving Mother Peace, D'Kacilius found a peculiar sword being sold at Arms de Armas: a Sword of Vengeance that fed the souls of those slain by the sword to Silent. Obviously, D'Kacilius immediately bought it to prove his devotion to the Arbiter of Death. The "Deathglaive" title and weapon have now been replaced with the "Deathblade".

Important Rp Threads/Moments

"Threatening" Linden Rue

PCs involved: Linden Rue, Tristram Caniedydd, Delphi, Vadath

(Note: Originally intended to be banter, but then turned out to be a stupid idea)

Summary: Half-IC, half-OOC. A discussion in #greedy-general occurred about Session 49a. Linden talked about how she “deprived the quiet one (aka Silent) of yet another soul to nom…” literally after D’Kacilius bought the Sword of Vengeance. I thought it would be some fun banter and was “now tempted to stab [Linden] with this new sword [D’Kacilius] just bought” since I was “offended” by that statement. (Spoiler: Not fun banter. Threatening people day 1 = I will die.) Tristram began warning me of my actions, and Delphi jumped in to deter me, also warning that Linden was protected. Vadath showed up to ask if there was “another warlock threatening [his] guild mates”. Things dissipated after I asked how to learn more about the campaign.

TL; DR: Don’t do stupid things, like threatening someone with a shiny new sword you just bought.

Drang's Anti-Silent Outburst on the Streets ("To Worship or Not to Worship")

PCs involved: Drang, Feyjin Eldarhearth, Hugo Clarion, Tristram, Pot’tu (Showed up, but only silently observed)

Summary: Drang decided to talk smack against Silent, which pissed off D’Kacilius. Feyjin tried to lower the tensions between the two. However, D’Kacilius turned on Feyjin, since she mentioned how D’Kacilius’ “extreme zealotry” would not make him look favorable. He targeted Feyjin’s uncertainty in her faith, causing both to begin hurling harsh words at each other. Hugo interjected, asking D’Kacilius what stupid things he was doing. Drang, Feyjin and Hugo slowly cornered D’Kacilius into an alley, when Tristram also showed up. Tristram spoke of a “connection” between Silent and someone named Towie (aka The One Who Waits), and how he was happy that D’Kacilius was already ruining Silent’s reputation and making it easier for his Anti-Silent Campaign. Since D’Kacilius was in an obviously unfavorable position, he flew away in annoyance.

TL; DR: Religious talk soured relations between a couple of PCs and established that D’Kacilius is passively making way too many enemies.

Random Info Dump (aka the "I-Hate-My-Life" Counter or “the XP Dump”)

-Has hilariously bad/sad luck for every session so far

  • During the fight with Mother Peace, got hit by a double roll with disadvantage. The premodifier damage for said attack would have left D'Kacilius at exactly one hit point. Then James added the modifiers -_-
  • Rolled a Nat 0 (Nat 1 with a -1 mod to Int) and determined that the Pradassis Mining Conglomerate is a front for the mob.
  • One bugman was taken to very low health during the mining expedition. D'Kacilius swung at it twice- and left it at exactly one hit point.
  • Apparently doesn't know what a "double j" is.
  • During the Wovenstone escort, one Robocentaur overkilled D'Kacilius by one hit point.

-Sadly incompetent at killing (see above). Only "real" kill is an elk stag during a hunting session taken while preparing to enter the mine.

-Originally named “Kacilius”. The “D” was added afterwards when I learned that all Gem Dragonborn (Delphi and Durian) all had names that start with “D”. A “D” was added afterwards to follow the pattern, but the name is pronounced as if the “D” is silent. Also fits since D’Kacilius worships Silent and he has a “silent” letter

-Technically the third iteration of Kacilius. Kacilius is a "template character" that embodies my favorite things from D&D, so the character's race/class/background/personality has been used in other campaigns. The first version was killed by some ghouls who crit three times IN A ROW. The second version rolled a Nat 1 for a Dispel Magic- for a 9th level Imprisonment- and got sent to Pandemonium. There has a fourth version, who got screwed over by the party during the final session and got demoted from his original intended position. Hopefully D'Kacilius (Version 3) doesn't get screwed over any further. He's already suffering and so am I
