Archdevils are powerful and unique Devils in positions of power or renown in The Ten Hells. The most powerful are the Lords of the Ten, rulers of each layer of Hell. The leader of these Lords is Asmodeus, whose power grants him the status of a Lesser God. Each archdevil draws on their powers directly from the Ruby Rod.
Lord of the Hells[edit | edit source]
The title and position of Lord of the Hells goes to the wielder of the Ruby Rod, the artifact that controls the Hells itself and gives archdevils their power. Since its creation, Asmodeus has been its weilder and the Lord of the Hells, until the Lord of Greed Mammon stole it for a brief period in 926 PR during the Infernal Insurrection, before the Rod's destruction.
The Ruby Rod[edit | edit source]
Most archdevils, including Asmodeus himself, drew much of their power from the artifact known as the Ruby Rod, crafted from the divine essence of the slain goddess Othea. This was achieved by Asmodeus himself bestowing a small piece of the rod to be embedded within the archdevil. For lesser devils, this piece was no larger then a wood splinter, but for the Rulers of the Ten, Asmodeus bestowed larger chunks of the Ruby Rod known as Ruby Hearts, each about the size of a golf ball. The larger the portion of the Ruby Rod they possessed, the more powerful the archdevil. Though Asmodeus could always revoke this power at a moments notice, returning the piece of the Rod back to him. Though this did not mean that all archdevils were empowered by the Ruby Rod, as some had either rose to power outside of the normal power structure of the Hells and without Asmodeus' blessing, or were already powerful beings before descending into the Hells and transforming into a fiend.
When the Ruby Rod was destroyed during the Infernal Insurrection, many archdevils who relied solely on the powers gifted to them by the Ruby Rod were left powerless, while those who were already naturally strong thrived in the power vacuum, upsetting the order that had been set in place for centuries.
Rulers of the Ten[edit | edit source]
The Archdukes of the Ten Hells hold a special place among the Archdevils as each have rulership over one of Hells' layers. They each possess Asmodeus' blessing and a piece of the Ruby Rod which gives them control over their respective layer.
