Ironfell Prison is one of the most prominent and high security prisons on the second layer of the Ten Hells, Dis.

Ironfell Prison is a massive multilayered prison in the heart of the Iron City of Dis. Its purpose was to torment mortal souls and hold dangerous prisoners from the Blood War. Prisoners here would be tortured until they sore complete loyalty to Dispater, or else be driven mad. The prison was controlled by the Warden Zuul, a Chain Devil whose chains ran all throughout Ironfell Prison and connected to each of its prisoners. These chains served as Zuul's eyes and ears throughout the prison and made it so the prison required little in terms of guards or other devils for security.
The outside of the prison is heavily fortified and patrolled by legions of devil warriors and two Pit Fiend commanders. Beside the prison is a massive cistern full of boiling acid in which the prison dumps its waste and is inhabited by an Acid Kraken. Inside the prison was controlled and observed by Zuul and its vast network of chains with only around six other infernal guards and a Maelephant on standby to handle troublesome prisoners.
The prison was broken into three vertical sections. At the top was the prisoner cell blocks, all suspended high in the air on platforms held up by Zuul's chains. Each prisoner wore an iron collar to which one of Zuul's chains attached. Hundreds of feet bellow floating on a pool of lava was the torture level where Zuul would use his chains to torment and break the prisoners of Ironfell.
Below the torture level was the bottom level of Ironfell Prison, the Chain Pits. The only way to enter the Chain Pits was through an iron door locked by a key only in the possession of the Iron Brute and son of Dispater, the archdevil Balgoor. Here were held the most valuable prisoners including demons and traitorous archdevils. The Chain Pits were the home of Zuul and were where all of the chains in ironfell connected to. Each prisoner here was bounded by chains and held over lava by spiderwebs of chains.
Zuul[edit | edit source]
Zuul was a mysterious and mute Chain Devil loyal to Dispater. Zuul was so loyal that Dispater gave Zuul the job of protecting the last wish, a gem that held the power of the last wish of the Efreeti Dalia Embervale. Zuul would be killed in 925 PR when the adventuring party known as the Hellraisers executed a prison break to free Ratatrosk. After his death, all the chains binding Ironfell Prison became inert.
Notable Prisoners[edit | edit source]
Sariel[edit | edit source]
Sariel was a fallen angel who was imprisoned in Ironfell after his fall from Mt. Celestia. Sariel was the first creature to ever escape Ironfell. By faking his death after months of torture, Sariel managed to survive being scorched in the body disposal incinerator and being dumped in the acid cistern outside of Ironfell Prison. He would share the knowledge of his escape with the adventuring party, the Hellraisers.
Ratatrosk[edit | edit source]
After he was captured by Bel and sold to Dispater, the Demon Lord Ratatrosk was held prisoner in the Chain Pits and tortured by Zuul. He would later be rescued by the Hellraisers.
The Beast of the Badlands[edit | edit source]
The Beast of the Badlands was a Duumal warlord and member of the Sinners League who was captured when Bel defeated the league. After his capture, the Beast would be imprisoned in Ironfell Prison and would escape after the death of Zuul.
