History[edit | edit source]
Virgil was raised in the Ten Hells and groomed to become an Orator in the court of the archdevil Glasya in Nessus. For many years Virgil served as one of Glasya's ambassadors across the Hells and even into the elemental planes. But during a high end soul trade organized by Virgil with a Horned Devil on the fourth layer of the Hells, Phlegethos, the Horned Devil went back on its deal and attempted to betray Glasya, an incident that lost Glasya some valuable resources. She placed the blame on Virgil for the deal's failure and expelled him from her court.
Dejected and unable to find work elsewhere in the Hells, Virgil traveled to the Cerulean City in hopes of finding new prospects, only to find themselves in the dumps at at the bottom of a bottle. Virgil would be found by the adventuring party the Hellraisers, including Aivan Factorovich, Aliria Servine, Nyrgoth, Sylphine Nightfall, Balaam, and Endine di Valpadana, who would hire him to serve as their guide through the Ten Hells.
As they traveled through the Hells, Virgil would commonly give the party pertinent info about the Hells and would aid them in battle with his bardic magic. He would aid then in combating the Cult of the Shattered Mountain, confronting his former employer Glasya, and even join them in the final battle against Othea.
After the defeat of Othea and the destruction of the Ruby Rod, Virgil would stay in the Hells to help Nyr rebuild Dis. But after a few years, he realized his future did not lie in the Hells and so traveled to the Material Plane, eventually settling in the city of Jewelspar. Here he would engage with the local Tiefling community and become a professor at the bardic college Laergul University, where he would share the story of the Hellraisers.
