Coseismus was a human cleric of Grumbar. After battling with and eventually joining A Few for the Many, he departed. For many, he went from the enemy who cleaved Solum in twain to close friend and confidant.
Andif was "not his type," implying the gruff-voiced, kind-hearted cleric was potentially gay, or possibly just not into Elves.
History[edit | edit source]
Coseismus was born and raised somewhere in Osugbo.
He was buried alive at the age of 19 for his parents debts, but survived by a miracle from the god that rarely communes with followers. Screaming to be let out, he found himself granted powers over earth and stone. Unburying himself, he was convinced that the god of stone had heard his cries, and so he would join the Church of Grumbar.
Later in life, he would abandon his post in Osugbo and cross water to travel to Amusa (a forbidden act) after the clergy recieved news that the Crown of Empyrosis had reemerged in Galik. The crown was said to have the capabilities to destroy Grumbar's Staff of the Marsh. Coseismus had made it as far as Ambleside, a couple day's trip from the city, when faith or fate once again intervened. Noticing a flash outside his hostel window, Coseismus had just happened to be in the town when his future husband Rowan, clad with the Crown itself, attempted to get vengeance on his hometown via arson.
Coseismus fought valiantly against Rowan and his team (known as AFEW), even striking one to death, before he was finally overpowered and knocked unconscious. Coseismus would be a key hostage to the team, revealing as little as he could while remaining helpful and alive, Rowan and the others pieced together the relationship between the Grumbarans and the Crown. Ultimately, Coseismus would be asked to join the team as an ally and help infiltrate his own church. Coseismus agreed because he knew the alternative was death, or worst---the Banites getting their hands on the staff instead.
Coseismus was a key part of Operation Bonds of the Earth, where he would summon great elementals and form massive walls to keep back the brainwashed Tigger.
Later, after stealing the Staff of the Marsh from a Grumbaran Temple, Coseismus and the other members of AFEW were captured and taken into custody by the surviving Grumbarans. Coseismus personally brokered a deal with his fellow Grumbarans. However, as part of his attack against his own kind, Coseismus was ordered by archpriests to undergo severe repentance, including repairing the damage done to the temples.
Staying behind as an apology to Grumbar for the blasphemy he committed, Coseismus' last act of assistance included smuggling the Crown out of the Howling Crag (by dressing Midnight as a dead grumbaran, sneaking it onto her body, and taking her body back to Amusa to be buried with the other dead) from there, AFEW would go on to reclaim it. Giving the team back the crown ultimately cemented that his loyalties were to destroying the staff, not protecting it.
Powers and Weapons[edit | edit source]
Calling upon the powers of the earth god, Coseismus could take an empowered, rocky form. He could summon large mounds of earth, earth elementals, and had a beard of stone.
When not in battle, he took it upon himself to train the ragtag crew of AFEW and The Ellipses. After all, it was rather disheartening that he could take on all of them alone when they even had the Crown. Mechanically, this meant players not present still received 8% of XP with Coseismus' training.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Coseismus was listed in the DM notes as "Super Conservative" and I'm still not sure what that means.
