The Quelmar Wiki
(Redirected from Nimz)

"I just love dusty, dank dungeons. If it were not for the fact that the Horn of Corellon was rumored to be here, I would be content researching in the Specticade"

Archmage Erland Nimz was the immortal ruler of Jewelspar between the years of 795 BR and 693 PR. He could usually be found in his palace, an opulent piece of architecture known as the Specticade, working in a laboratory where he experimented with new magics.

About[edit | edit source]

Nimz is an elf of above average build, who keeps shoulder length hair, and a closely trimmed beard. He wears open blue robes over natural toned trousers, and ornate boots. He tends of have a hat or other headwear on to shield his head from the gods, and goes nowhere without his globe of legend lore.

He prefers the biggest and most impressive looking spells over the most powerful. He tends to get animated and excited over the more flourish a magical effect has. He is quite sarcastic and opinionated, and other nobles consider him micromangerial. He loves a good mystery, especially one that he helps create the rumors for.

Nimz was a propogandist who believed in Elven superiority. He purposefully founded the city uncomfortably close to nearby Dardin, which was a similarly superior city full of industrialist and utilitarian dwarves. Dardin was originally happy to see more life spring up nearby, but it did not take long for the two cities to become at odds with each other.

History[edit | edit source]

The son of a sage, Erland Nimz started his arcane career in his teens, showing great proficiency. Early in his career, he joined an adventuring group and made his initial fortune on several dangerous expeditions, which eventually led him to his hunt for the Boon of Corellon.

Extracting the Chimera[edit | edit source]

Deep underneath of Jewelspar laid a Mutated Chimera. In the late BR era, Nimz discovered the Chimera, and attempted to extract it from the ground for study. This was not a clean procedure, and in the resulting chaos, the Chimera wound up destroying much of the original Dardin under-caverns. The leaders of Dardin were killed, but Nimz held on to their bodies, keeping them in magical stasis for as long as possible. When it became clear that their souls had far departed, the bodies were kept stable by magically implanting them into animals. Nimz original intentions were to rescue the dwarves, but at the time, clerical powers were not all too common, and Nimz had no healing or restoring capabilities. Over time, Dardin's continued hostility towards Nimz and elves in general for the events that occurred corrupted him. He wiped the memories of all dwarves who may have remembered Nimz bringing forth the Chimera, and decided that he would hang on to the bodies as a trump card in the event Dardin ever attempted war. The Chimera was later stuffed, miniaturized, and kept on his bedside table as a reminder of his dark secret.

The Holy War[edit | edit source]

Nimz has been missing for 7 years. Though the city says they still receive word from him and guidance on keeping the peace. In reality, Nimz has been spending his days up north helping Glendoveer in their war against Woldlin, using powerful magics to tame the animal entourages that Woldlin uses to attack Glendoveer territory.

Nimz was picked as a group patron for the OathWielders, and would support them by paying for them to lease an Elven Wingship to take across The AmuPter Front.

Nimz did a lot of research on The Curse of Life and attempted to find ways to break The Gone But Not Forgotten Curse, in his attempts to resurrect and control dead dragons. Fortunately for him, by helping the OathWielders get to Galik, he inadvertently set off the chain of events that lifted both curses and would let him actually control undead dragons. He eventually found it below him.
