About[edit | edit source]
The Free Defenders was founded as a way to capitalize on the sheer number of adventurers, vigilantes, and low-class criminals, all of who would exchange a small amount of responsibility in return for marginal benefits. Signing up to be a Free Defender is free, and there is no pay except for a small copper pin that one can pin to themselves to designate themselves as part of the guard.
There are 300 free defenders at any given time at the city's citadel, and another 400 defenders at the city keep. The rest of the defenders (which numbers around 4000 on a given day) are on patrol around the city, typically going about their own lives, only going into "Defender" mode if they witness a crime.
Benefits[edit | edit source]
- Free Defenders can lodge for free in a number of hostels located all over the city.
- During normal city hours, Free Defenders can freely wield additional weapons in public.
- During any Galik Crisis, Free Defenders can break most city limitations such as curfews or heightened restrictions on magic or weapons.
- Meal bunkers provide food for Free Defenders at all times of day.
