The Griffon's Last Stand was an assault on the Market Ward of Galik by the god of death Nerull.

Background

Helm's Holy Quarters

As the Citadel of the Griffon was one of the city's many barracks for the Lyreguards, it was also a holy place of worship for the city's elite squadron, as the Lyreguards were all devout paladins of Helm. As such, sites of prayer could be found all over the citadel, especially the massive golden statue of the Griffon that could be found in the front yard of the tower. Typically these sites were symbolic and traditionally just designated spots of prayer, but when Nerull launched an attack on his own holy grounds, Helm activated the prayer sites, using his holy power to enrich the abilities of people fighting against Nerull as long as they were willing to sacrifice in return. These sacrifices could be bloody, like the head of Nerull's armies, or symbolic, such as a religious favor that a combatant had been saving for a rainy day.

Timeline

The battle raged on for only a few red-hot-burning intense minutes as the factions raced each other to the top of the Citadel where the clerics of Lathander were already channeling Pelor's splinter of life. A number of Livers made it to the top over the course of the battle. The battle's breakdown can be found on the right, where groups of livers (either single livers, or groups of 3 or 5) infiltrated the tower at its lowest levels, or at higher levels, having climbed the sides and broken in through the citadel windows.

Luckily for all parties involved, Eve, Gainpin, and the Lathander clerics were successful in extracting the Splinter before Nerull himself arrived. Though the battle outline to the right says that Nerull would arrive after 20 rounds, the battle only made it to 16 before the OathWeilders, ShadowDancers, LyreGuard, and all their allies would succeed, never giving Nerull the opportunity to send an avatar of himself to intervene in the combat.
