Lord Belovaar was a shadow empowered lord who came from The Shadowfell to Isonhound in an attempt to corrupt its feywild energies at some point in the 400s PR.
About[edit | edit source]
Belovaar was trapped in an obelisk just outside of the town of Luanda, presumably by powerful people on a mission to protect Isonhound, possibly the Wold Order or Sylvan Order, or possibly some of the contemporary heroes of the 400s PR.
History[edit | edit source]
At some point, Lord Belovaar was taken down and imprisoned into a magical spire.
Imprisoned[edit | edit source]
Lord Belovaar’s prison, known as The Spyre, is a towering, arcane structure designed to contain the immense power and corruption he embraced in his descent into shadow magic. Constructed as a protective measure against incursions from the Shadowfell, the Spire was later repurposed into Belovaar’s tomb after his transformation into a malevolent shadow entity threatened the realms.
The Spire stands 60 feet tall and is cloaked in perpetual shadow energy, which warps the surrounding environment and spawns dangerous creatures, such as shadow-tainted oozes and undead. It is safeguarded by powerful arcane defenses, including a lightning deterrent that activates against any who approach its heights. The prison’s design is as much a deterrent to intruders as it is a means to contain Belovaar’s dark influence.
Inside the Spire lies a complex network of chambers interconnected through a magical moon pool mechanism. The pool, activated by aligning mirrors and levers, opens portals to various rooms within the structure. These chambers housed shadowy creatures, ancient relics, and grim remnants of those who had previously challenged the Spire's mysteries.
The final chamber, where Lord Belovaar is imprisoned, is a testament to his dark power and cunning. Here, Belovaar attempted to manipulate adventurers into freeing him, exploiting their doubts and weaknesses. His ability to possess others proved a formidable obstacle, but through sheer resolve and ingenuity, a group of adventurers managed to reseal him. Using a combination of arcane artifacts, coordinated attacks, and the sacrifice of precious resources, they activated the Spire’s failsafe mechanisms, locking Belovaar within a magical barrier and restoring its function as a Shadowfell seal.
Notably, the Spire exists in a state of temporal distortion, where time within its walls flows much faster than in the outside world. This phenomenon adds to the Spire’s reputation as a place of otherworldly danger and complexity, making it a fitting prison for one of the most dangerous shadow mages in recorded history.
The Spire’s continued operation ensures that Lord Belovaar remains trapped, his influence contained. However, the events leading to his initial release—a dragon's attack orchestrated by Belovaar himself—serve as a stark reminder of the tenuous balance that keeps his corruption at bay. The prison of Lord Belovaar remains a symbol of both his immense power and the heroism of those who risked their lives to ensure it would not be unleashed again.
Almost Released (825 PR)[edit | edit source]
During the slow and steady eruption of the Northern Snowy Mountains and the events leading up to The Umbral Flood, Belovaar's power became enhanced inside of his obelisk, leading to him shattering some of the arcane protections, and seeping small amounts of shadow energy into the surrounding landscape. To make matters worse, the obelisk itself had been damaged by the dragon Flame as he razed the land around Luanda.
Unfortunately for Belovaar, he quickly came face to face with Clank, an engineer and hero of the realm who specialized in fixing that which was broken. Once inside the Obelisk via an open ceiling hole, Clank could detect was had been jostled or broken, and restored the obelisk back into working condition, using magical fey runes and catalysts to ensure Belovaar could not escape.
