Kavanmort, the Twin Doom was a Dragon like no other. Born of a malformed egg, they hatched with two heads and two sets of scales on their back, half blue, and half black. Kavanmort is a titan dragon in all senses of the word, towering over even some of the mightiest of Ancient Dragons. He truly holds the power of true dragons in one body. Kavanmort was a major threat to Amusa during The Holy War and eventually returned to the continent centuries later to reclaim his territory. After many years of ravaging the land though, he was slain by a party of adventurers.
Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]
Few have beheld the majesty of Kavanmort and lived to tell the tale. They are a massive draconic beast with two large ravenous maws with hungry eyes. Their scales, half black, and half blue are rough and sharp across their body. Their wings stretch out like great arms in their malformed nature, with great strength lifting the form of Kavanmort. Kavanmort's left front leg is shriveled and weak, while in contrast his right leg is large and muscular.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Kavanmort is a cruel and malevolent tyrant and revels in inflicting pain on others. He is ferocious in battle and fights entirely on instinct, leaving little an opening to strike. Half the time, he fights like a savage beast, and the other half acts as a cold and calculating tactician. No dragon his size has yet been able to stand up to him. While he fight's in Tiamat's war he cares little for Dragon politics, and only fights to burn the world around him. He cares not for territory or borders and moves as he pleases. Anything that finds himself in the path of his rampage finds itself quickly sundered, even if it is another dragon. He is eternally prideful, as sheen when he crowned himself lord and Twice King over his kingdom of ash in Amusa. He cares little for minions or servants, but understands their importance. Many flock to him in a desire to serve such a great power, but most do keep their distance in fear that they may be caught in his destructive wake.
With all of this though, many forget that Kavanmort is indeed a being of two minds. His blue head is observant and tactical, while his black head cares not for planning and acts entirely of a bestial nature. Each head refers to the other as their brother and they work together in perfect sync to work ruin upon their enemies.
History[edit | edit source]
Kavanmort was feared since the day he was born. It is said that once a century, a dragon egg is born malformed, a deathly omen for dragons, good and evil. Dragons born from malformed eggs are of great power, and grow supernaturally fast for a dragon. Dragon legends tell stories of dragons born from malformed eggs, and how they wrought doom on both dragonkind and the realm at large. That is why in most cases, when a dragon has a malformed egg in its nest, they will destroy the egg before it even hatches.
Kavanmort was an egg born malformed. His parents were unable to muster up the courage to smash the egg of their own child and instead decided to let it perish in the elements on top of an inhospitable mountain. But against all the odds, Kavanmort survived. He would spend the next hundred years growing in those mountains, surviving some of the most dangerous conditions that could be known. He was raised without the guidance of his parents and learned nothing about draconic conduct or beliefs. As such he cared not for the concepts of territory or control when it came to entering into the realms of other dragons, for they were nothing more but another obstacle for him to conquer.
Kavanmort grew twice as fast as a normal dragon and as such had to eat twice as much. The regions surrounding his birth mountain were quickly raised of all cattle and livestock, driving many species and civilization in the area to extinction. Any dragon who attempted to move in on his territory would to their horror meet a quick and brutal end before being consumed by the Twin Doom. Kavanmort enjoyed the tase of dragon so much that he quickly gained the title of the Great Devourer as he would seek out other dragons to consume.
Tiamat as she was beginning her Holy War saw this and began to worry that Kavanmort would begin to devastate her forces and was able to strike a deal with the dragon that in return for not eating any of her dragons for the next thousand years, she would gift him the entire continent of Amusa. Kavanmort agreed to the terms of her agreement and so the shadow of his great wings grew over the continent of Amusa and tormented the land for much of the Holy War. He declared himself the Twice Crowned and eternal lord of the land. He would make tenuous alliances with other dragons to help him maintain his new kingdom where he could hunt and torture to his hearts content, including the Orange Scourge Dragon, Xevriss, and Old Alkinimic. A number of castles and forts were dedicated to him during this time by his minions, much of which have fallen into ruins in the modern day.
It is currently unknown what happened to Kavanmort in the intervening centuries after the end of the Holy War and the banishment of dragons. Some believe that he went into hibernation deep below the sea while others claim he took refuge in Kiston, a theory that has come into some question due to his penchant for devouring dragons. A popular belief is that he had left the land of Quelmar altogether and journeyed to lands far beyond the borders of the map.
But when Tiamat re-emerged in the realm, so came the return of Kavanmort to Amusa, once again staking his claim as the Twice Crowned. He would cause havoc across the continent until a group of adventurers including the former Lyreguard captain Harrow Grimfold would slay him in 822 PR. The battle was concluded when Harrow shot an divinely blessed arrow into the creature, ripping its heart from its body. The heart was on display in the Moonsea Museum in Galik until it was stolen in 894 PR along with several lesser artifacts.
Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]
Kavanmort wields the powers of two ancient dragons. His right head can breathe pure lightning while his left head can belch forth the most corrosive of acid. He wields some of the greatest strength of any dragon and the power of his beating winds could create wind gusts strong enough to pull the supports of homes from the ground.
