The Arctic Altercation was a battle fought in the wilds of Amusa just west of Xender City, and simultaneously in the wilds of Levinkan just southwest of Zobeck. It was a battle to stop The Arctic Autumn once and for all, by killing the mage responsible.

At one point in the battle, the Paladin managed to escape the ambush, making it several hundred feet clear of any threats, only to be stopped by a last-ditch-effort wish that the bard Andif had been keeping hidden for many months.

The final hit done on the Paladin to win the war was done by a lone Kobold.

The Plan[edit | edit source]

The team spent months during the Arctic Autumn convincing allies and other forces to come join them. Some came from far away such as the Storm Giant of Pteris. The plan was organized by the characters working out of Galik and also by the Players who coordinated in a massive shared document, working into the early hours of morning to finalize a plan.

The final plan was broken into two teams: One would attack the Paladin and stab him with The Sorcyst Blade to teleport him to a secondary destination in Amusa where an ambush was ready to take him down.

TEAM LEVINKAN TEAM AMUSA

Team Stabby Goal: Intercept team goes to one of the Paladin’s resting spot with the sole purpose of using the sorcyst blade to teleport the Paladin to the designated ambush location---then stab themselves to bring themselves into the Ambush team.

Members: Maverick (can give stealth advantage), Jedit (Sorcyst Blade, pass w/o trace, ensnaring strike), Ynnis (inspirer, Sender), Flynn (dimension door, etc), Lucian Digennaro (invisibility)

Intercept location: Levinkan resting spot

  • We know how to get in
  • Only one path of escape that can be blocked
  • Easy enough to get to

Preparation: warm clothing, insulation when swimming, way to make pond in ice

Execution:

  • Team sneaks to pond and enters cavern
  • Trap is set at entrance of cavern to prevent/slow paladin escape
  • All sneak to mouth of resting room
  • One person sneaks through the back passage with the blade
  • Message sent to ambush team so they are ready
  • They sneak up to Paladin and transport them to ambush location
hThe Amusa Team, waiting anxiously
Goal: Kill the Paladin

Members: everyone else (plus the intercept team as they stab themselves)

Team Ambush: Medrash, Grindseed, Flynn, Rowan,

Team Crown: Artian, Blumenthal (with oil bombs), Edna

Team Orb: Croach, Chet, Jedit, (Flynn for levitate JIC?) storm giants?

Team Staff: Melvin, 32 Tooth Tommy,

Field Medics (fast and have healing): Red, Devoted Blaze

Other Healers: Edna, Maverick, Ynnis, Medrash, Andif

Ambush location (torture cave with victim images on walls?):

  • Only one entrance/exit which is at lower elevation than cave floor (water drains out)
  • High Ceiling for Flight (60 feet)
  • Dry as heck (no ice, no water)
  • Away from any large water sources and populated areas

Preparation:

  • Use Crown to create perma-heated area that clear ice
  • Use some dust to dry up the now water
  • Glyph of Warding (Aritian) set up to trigger if someone from our team steps into the summoning circle.
    • Spell Stored: Bane (CHA Save)

Execution:

  • Surround where Paladin will teleport to
  • Wait for message
  • Ready actions
  • Unleash hell

Behind the Screen[edit | edit source]

A possible breakdown of the battle as planned behind the screen.
  • The name Arctic Altercation is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the campaign the battle was fought in, known as Ancients Alive. Internal notes have the battle listed as "AAAA" which coincidentally is the sound most players made as they fought in it.
