D'Kacilius Venrai is a level 6 Amethyst Dragonborn Hexblade Warlock devoted to Silent, the Arbiter of Death. He is one of the last remaining Whispered Reapers, the original cult that worshipped Silent. His soul holds fragments of the Great Lord Azzoketh and “Honey-Tongued” Rirra, who are bound by Casi’Kulid, an ancient Draconic aspect.

His soul holds fragments of the Great Lord Azzoketh and “Honey-Tongued” Rirra, who are bound by Casi’Kulid, an ancient Draconic aspect.

D'Kacilius is an Amethyst Dragonborn, but with a greatly warped appearance. The constant exposure to death energy as a Whispered Reaper has given him deep obsidian-purple skin and jagged horns, while the corrupting influences of Azzoketh, Rirra, and Casi’Kulid have caused blood red and deep blue veins to trail up his arms from his claws. D'Kacilius' eyes are normally a milky silver, but his eyes change to a murky blue, fiery red, and/or dull yellow when Azzoketh, Rirra and/or Casi’Kulid take control. He commonly wears silvered deep-purple robes with a silver lined cape and purple hooded cloak.

After some therapy (and divine intervention), D’Kacilius has mostly returned to normal. He is still brash and reckless, but his personality is more softer, as he is more accepting and not as harsh or direct with his devotion.

“Death is common. Death is inevitable. By time or by my blade, Silent will come to collect your soul.”

After the chaotic aftermath of the "festival" known as Asar Ogalas, D'Kacilius fell into a pretty deep depression after watching Silent get consumed by the Shadows. He has closed himself off from most people other than the Iron Hawks, who are currently keeping him under watch.

"I walk the fine line between light and darkness. I am the shadow's edge that stands with neither order nor chaos. A broken soul will watch until the end of his time arrives. I reap all that stands in my way, and I will not rest."

Silent left the realm after being freed from Feredemius' control, leaving D'Kacilius behind. To preserve their memory and legacy, D'Kacilius became a cleric of death, ensuring Silent would not be forgotten. He is now more calm and collected, hoping to make sure Silent never suffers again.

"Do not fear death. Embrace it, and you will be remembered by Silent, the Arbiter of Death and the Caretaker of Memories."

Azzoketh is a shadow demon who commonly wields a greatsword. He made a pact with Vayurn, who tried to take over the Whispered Reapers. Azzoketh broke his contract and betrayed Vayurn, before being shattered and bound to D'Kacilius by Casi'Kulid.

Azzoketh is bloodthirsty and always ready to fight. However, he is also stubborn and can easily be provoked.

A group of cultists called the Whispered Reapers found the cave, who brought the egg back with them. They worshipped Silent, the Arbiter of Death, who had gone missing hundreds of years ago, just before D’Kacilius’ egg came to. Since he had an archaic connection, the Reapers trained him to become the next Elder Priest. He learned of death and its ways, quickly becoming adept at both magic and martial weaponry. When Silent was released from Tasha’s control, D’Kacilius and the cult rejoiced. Their god had returned, and they were ready to bring their god’s will.

However, a fracture within the cult quickly emerged. In a bid for power over the cult, Brother Vayurn made pacts with the demon Azzoketh, while Sister Regina dealt with the devil Rirra. With his grip over the cult slipping, the Elder Priest tried to unite the rest by ascending D’Kacilius.

He failed.
He failed.

The night before the ascension, both sides made their move. As the Elder Priest began the ceremony, an assassin’s arrow took his life. Cultists drew their blades, lunging at each other’s throats. Demons and devils clashed, as the remaining few loyal to Silent were slaughtered in the crossfire. D’Kacilius tried to escape to safety, but he was cornered by Brother Vayurn and Sister Regina. Both were trying to use D’Kacilius as leverage over the other, when some cultists lost their control over their summoned demons and devils. Brother Vayurn and Sister Regina were both immediately betrayed, as Azzoketh and Rirra snapped them in half. As D’Kacilius watched in shock, Azzoketh and Rirra both reached for him. They grabbed him by his arms, when a surge of powerful magic blasted through the two entities. Latent primordial magic sucked fragments of Azzoketh and Rirra into D’Kacilius. As D’Kacilius began losing consciousness, he heard three voices in his head.

Azzoketh, Rirra, and Casi'Kulid still occasionally come out, but only by D'Kacilius' will. However, there are still occasional signs on unrest and turmoil within...

Asar Ogalas was even worse. Chaos broke loose across all of Isonhound, and D’Kacilius watched Silent get consumed by the Shadows directly in front of him. To ensure his own (and others) safety and sanity, D’Kacilius was brought into the Iron Hawks. On his own request, D’Kacilius is currently being kept under watch in case The One That Waits is able to influence him through his connection with Silent.

A group of adventurers (including D'Kacilius) went and freed Silent from Feredemius' control, but Silent decided to leave the realm along with Hugo to sort things out. D'Kacilius reacted too late and was left behind. He decided to become a cleric to preserve Silent's memory and legacy, to prevent Silent from being forgotten.

If things get nasty, D'Kacilius has a variety of close combat defensive spells. He can summon a storm of spectral blades that slash nearby enemies (Sword Burst), conjure frost armor that freezes melee assailants (Armor of Agathys), create a shimmer that makes him harder to hit (Blur), and teleport to safety while leaving behind a disrupting sonic boom (Thunder Step). He is also able to interrupt spells (Counterspell) and remove magical effects (Dispel Magic).

Recently (leveling up to level 6), D’Kacilius gained magical darkvision (Devil’s Sight) and the ability to reanimate a slain enemy as a temporary ally (Accursed Specter). He is also able to create a sphere of magical darkness (Darkness) but lost the ability to nullify magical effects (<s>Dispel Magic</s>).

Recently (leveling up to level 7), D'Kacilius regained the ability to remove magical effects (Dispel Magic). He is also better at maintaining concentration spells (Eldritch Mind) and is now able to create a shadowy cloak that obscures D'Kacilius, weakens radiant attacks, and hurts enemies who attack with melee strikes (Shadow of Moil) instead of just creating a shimmer (<s>Blur</s>).

After Silent left the realm, D'Kacilius became a cleric of death, gaining some power over life and death. He is able to assist people (Guidance), stabilize injuries (Spare the Dying), manifest supernatural effects (Thaumaturgy), and ring a death bell to bring imminent doom. (Toll the Dead). Additionally, due to his affinity with necromantic, some spells are able to target more than one target at once (Reaper).

Silent Flame Tattoo: A tattoo that allows Silent to cast effects of D'Kacilius for one less point (minimum of one point per favor). The design is Silent's religious symbol (a skeletal hand with an hourglass) in blood red ink and completely covers D'Kacilius' back.

The (Silent) Sword of Vengeance (aka "Deathblade")
This Sword of Vengeance feeds the souls of those slain by the sword directly to Silent. It was anonymously traded in at Arms de Armas, and D'Kacilius purchesed it shortly after his first adventure. The sword was created with Drow magic, and has runes and markings of the Drow Life God Ellistree. There is also symbiology of an unknown War God, which is why a DC 15 Wisdom check is required when D'Kacilius is hurt to prevent him from going into a "Vengeful" state.

D’Kacilius was wandering near the city gates of Seglock when a strange man beckoned him over. The strange man called himself Gideon and explained that he was actually a Brass dragon in disguise, and that there were some hags that were threatening Isonhound. One of the hags, Mother Peace, was going to be present in Seglock that night, and Gideon needed D’Kacilius’ help with her demise, as Seglock had an anti-Dragon field created by the Moonwell. Gideon handed D’Kacilius a ticket to watch a theater show at “Tristram’s Center for the Living Arts” and was told that there would be several other adventurers there that would assist.
[insert text]

D'Kacilius was not very interested in theater, but went anyways. The show seemed to be a reenactment of a black dragon being slain, which was actually interesting. Halfway through the show, a papier-mâché dragon erupted in smoke and turned into a literal black dragon. As the smoke cleared, the dragon then turned into a hag. Several other adventurers began engaging the hag as the crowd began evacuating, which D’Kacilius assumed were the other adventurers Gideon mentioned: the Halfling Grave Cleric Feyjin Eldarhearth, the Goliath Tempest Cleric Asger, The Air Genasi Fighter Eurus, the Owlin Alchemist Artificer Ona Holyspell, the Haragon Life Cleric Linden Rue, and the Scourge Aasimar Redemption Paladin Markoth Dawnborn.

As the fight broke out, everyone noticed that despite the bright lights, their shadows disappeared. 7 shadowy figures formed onstage as the adventurers realized Mother Peace stole their shadows. D’Kacilius cursed Mother Peace with Hexblade’s Curse and fired Eldritch Blasts as he weaved his way towards the hag. Feyjin tried to ground herself as the crowd nearly swept her away while Asger began calling lightning down to strike. Eurus rushed forward as Ona flew into the air along with her homunculus to provide aerial support. Meanwhile, Linden leapt down from the balcony and summoned her Carrot of Doom spiritual weapon as Markoth tried to summon his horse from afar while trying to dodge everything.

While fighting their own shadows, D’Kacilius and the others quickly realized two things. First, the shadows mimicked everything their counterparts did. D’Kacilius himself was Cursed by his own shadow and blasted at with Eldritch Blasts. Second, the shadows were able to magically sap their strength. Eurus and Markoth both suffered strength exhaustion as the fight progressed.

After Blasting for a while, D’Kacilius sprouted his spectral wings and joined Ona up in the air. D’Kacilius’ own shadow copy tried to Eldritch Blast him, which D’Kacilius quickly Counterspelled. However, Asger’s shadow copy mimicked Call Lightning, which struck and knocked both D’Kacilius and Ona out of the sky. As D’Kacilius got up, he cast Blur to protect himself as he kept Eldritch Blasting. However, Ona’s shadow sapped D’Kacilius as he tried to recover, knocking him out.

D'Kacilius regained consciousness well after the fight was over. He was quickly caught up with what he missed, but he was upset that he was unable to provide Silent with a soul. Afterwards, Seglock provided each adventurer with gold, a coupon book with a 50% offer for the local armory Arms de Armas, and miscellaneous potions. D’Kacilius picked up a Potion of Greater Disguise Self, which provided the effects of the Greater Disguise Self spell for one hour.

D’Kacilius somehow became broke. Luckily, the Pradassis Mining Conglamorate recently placed an ad for adventurers for help to deal with an issue in their mines. Apparently, something “bug-like” was killing off their miners and preventing the PMC from extracting their “special” ore. The receptionist office quickly filled up with an assortment of adventurers who answered: the Loxodon Totem Barbarian Airavata, the Tortle Evoker Wizard Kaba, the Human Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer Herneldo, the Grung Kensei Monk Dug, and the Firbolg War Cleric Arlin Fiddlehead.
[insert text]

After D’Kacilius had a brief argument with the boss (read: threatened) and believed that the PMC was a front for the mob, the party signed an NDA and went off towards the mines. During preparation, Kaba was somehow able to procure two mining bombs from Crazy Cobold Cevin’s Combustibles, while D’Kacilius went off on a small hunting trip and claimed an elk’s soul with the Sword of Vengeance. The party then rode the mining elevator down into the mines, keeping a safe distance from Kaba, who was carrying the two bombs.

Arlin led the way, casting Light on his shield, as Airavata followed behind with her Candleflame Claymore. As the party continued through the mine, they found crates of the special ore that was being mined- aerocrystal. It naturally levitated upwards into the air, and was used alongside some other ores for a large engineering project. The party also found the corpses of several dwarven miners scattered throughout the mine.

Partway through, Arlin and Airavata’s light was cut off by magical darkness. At this moment, Kaba decided to turn invisible and split from the party, while Dug climbed the walls to look around. Arlin then cast Daylight to illuminate the mine, revealing a strange bug-like creature who quickly fled towards the darkness. D’Kacilius and the others began to chase after it while Arlin continued casting Daylight. Three more yugoloth were revealed, and combat ensued.

Dug tried to become friends with one of the yugoloth by hugging them, but ended up completely crushing it. Meanwhile, Kaba was ambushed by another yugoloth, who proceeded to drop a bomb at his feet, run away, and ignite it with Fireball. The yugoloth who attacked Kaba was quickly dispatched in a pincer maneuver as everyone rushed over to help. D’Kacilius cast Dispel Magic to remove the Darkness and swung at the yugoloth, but somehow left it barely standing. It ended up being smashed to death by Airavata, who Dug blowdarted so she kept her rage. Another yugoloth approached Kaba, who then dropped the other bomb at his feet and casted another Fireball. Luckily, he was able to Sculpt the spell so that only the two yugoloth were affected.

The yugoloth were able to teleport, and one yugoloth was able to escape by jumping through a rift in the wall that seemed to lead to a similar mine, Dug decided to jump through the rift and looked around, but the yugoloth was nowhere in sight. It turned out that the rift led to the Shadowfell, and that these rifts were starting to appear throughout Isonhound.

After sneaking some aerocrystal (along with some ornate chisels from a crate) out of the mine, the party was paid for their troubles. Additionally, D’Kacilius picked up a Scroll of Searing Smite, before realizing that he was unable to actually use the scroll.

D’Kacilius was broke. Again. This time, he found an ad by the TLC for an escort that seemed to pay handsomely, but also had zero information on the request. The only “important” thing was that the word “important” was listed four times. The party included five other adventurers: the Human Eldritch Knight Felicia Du Manoir, the Tiefling Ranger/Rogue Violet Lorinda, the Tiefling Warlock Trina Aliosh, the Eladrin Bard of Eloquence Tristram Caniedydd, and the New Dryad Circle of Spores Druid Grandmush.
[insert text]

The job was then explained: The wagons were carrying Wovenstone to Sneerwell, where Pendergras Industries was constructing airships. Recent shipments were stolen, and the escorts were all knocked out by an unknown force, although they were unharmed. After negotiating with the boss about increased pay for the danger involved (and getting gaslighted about a “double-j”), the party set off with the wagons. Felicia had to stay at a distance, since she was carrying Fellstone, which reacted dangerously if both ores came into contact with each other. As they passed through a logging camp, the drivers discovered that the log bridge the wagons were supposed to cross was cut. Tristram noticed strange statues nearby, and as he approached one, the statue suddenly came to life and attacked him. Four more similar creatures materialized from invisibility and attacked.

The horses were spooked, but one horse was hypnotized to keep it from running away. The strange statues, which resembled robotic centaurs, attacked ferociously. Two robocentaurs immediately knocked out Violet and Trina with wild swings, but nonlethally. Additionally, they were able to shoot gems that all had various effects.  D’Kacilius was Eldritch Blasting when a robocentaur teleported right into his face. He quickly Cursed the robocentaur, but immediately got knocked unconscious. Grandmush was able to revive D’Kacilius, who got angry and sprouted his wings and started Blasting from the sky. Tristram Polymorphed into a T-Rex and made quick work of a robocentaur.

At this point, the robocentaurs shifted focus. Instead of trying to down the escorts, they tried to steal the wagons themselves. D’Kacilius flew along with the robocentaurs to chase the cart down, when Tristram-Rex Misty Stepped and landed fully on a cart, preventing the robocentaurs from taking it away. The robocentaurs then fled away, leaving the wagons mostly unscathed.

The party was able to arrive at Sneerwell without any more issues and were paid for the job. Three of the robocentuars were disabled during the fight, and there were still several gems on the bodies that were lootable. The gems were sellable, which made up for the smaller amount of gold TLC gave. Apparently two of the wagon drivers saw the gems being looted and snitched. Except one. He kept his mouth shut.

D’Kacilius found another job. The mayor of Fasiltum sent out a request asking for adventurers to determine why the bullywugs from Stollblossom Island were attacking his citizens despite a peace treaty. Several other adventurers also joined D’Kacilius on this job: the Loxodon Barbarian Harold, the Human Eldritch Knight Fighter Felicia Du Manoir, the Vengeance Paladin/Hexblade Warlock Alexander “Xander” Sunfire, the Human Light Cleric Aedynn Tylaster, and the Half-Elf Sorcerer Kriqwyn. On this particular day, D’Kacilius was also able to commune and receive assistance from Silent, the Arbiter of Death.
[insert text]

The party travelled to Stollblossom Island via Newell Alderman’s rented boat. After arriving, Harold and Xander began to repair a boat they found nearby, while Aedynn noticed something watching from the trees nearby. When D’Kacilius and the others walked into the woods to investigate, a group of bullywugs with spears surrounded them. Aedynn cast Comprehend Languages to understand the bullywugs, while the others were given a frog and told to swallow it. The “frog” seemed to be a magical translator, as after eating the frog, D’Kacilius and the others (except Aedynn) were able to understand and speak in Bullywug. The bullywugs explained that their tadpole children were being stolen in the middle of the night, and that they believed that humans from Fasiltum were responsible. Even though guards were posted throughout the night, the children would still disappear in the blink of an eye. Chief Saptrap led the party to their village Camp Boilwart, which was several mud huts surrounding a giant mushroom (supposedly with roots). D’Kacilius quickly realized that a giant mushroom with roots was actually a tree. Interestingly enough, the mushroom emanated necrotic energy, and after some questioning, Chief Saptrap revealed that the mushroom marked the grave of the First Lord of Stollblossom Island, Hornglosh Muckborn. The party agreed to take watch alongside the guards to see if anything strange would happen during the night and consolidated the remaining tadpoles into two pools.

The night was quiet and normal, until midnight struck. All of the guards suddenly fell unconscious, before rising up again and slowly walking towards the tadpole pools. Additionally, a giant hole appeared in the center of the village. As the bullywugs approached the tadpole pools, they took them and began to walk towards the giant hole. It appeared that the bullywugs were under an enchantment that made them toss their tadpole children into the hole, and they would have no recollection of the event, causing them to attack the citizens of Fasiltum. D”Kacilius was able to hold two bullywugs back while the others created a barricade to prevent any innocent tadpole from being thrown to the dark abyss below.

As the sun began to rise, the bullywugs regained consciousness and realized what was happening. Harold took out a bag of infinite turnips and began tossing some down to gauge the distance. Luckily, the party had enough rope to rappel down and splashed around in some turnippy water. As they kept going, they eventually found themselves in a room with four glass coffins. Each coffin held an Eladrin corpse that seemed to correspond to the four seasons. A plaque nearby described the four Eladrin as lovers and haters, and asked “who loved whom, and who killed whom.” Each Eladrin was holding an item that seemed to be significant to them, while also having severe wounds on their bodies. D’Kacilius figured out that the seasons loved the ones before them, but hated their counterparts. A door nearby opened, revealing a large hall with a throne on the far side of the room. On the throne sat what appeared to be the corpse of Hornglosh Muckborn. As the party entered, the corpse began to animate. It asked for its meal, which turned out to be the tadpoles the enchanted bullywugs were throwing down. Harold tried to offer Hornglosh turnips instead, but Hornglosh refused and summoned zombie bullywug warriors to attack.

D'Kacilius quickly Cursed Hornglosh and started to close the gap while Eldritching Blasting. Silent helped get rid of two of the zombies as the fight continued. D’Kaciliius and Harold began slashing at Hornglosh, while Felicia, Xander, Aedynn and Kriqwyn dealt with the other zombies. With Silent’s assistance, D’Kacilius was able to strike down Hornglosh with a powerful necrotic strike and knocked off a strange crown.

However, this was not the end. As the crown hit the ground, Hornglosh began to mutate and turned into a giant monstrous being. The monster called itself “The Many” and told the party that it was responsible for collecting the souls. D’Kacilius flew into the air with his spectral wings to provide air support, but the ceiling was too low and The Many was able to knock him out of the sky twice. As the fight continued, Harold got swallowed by The Many and was temporarily transported to the Shadowfell. He saw that a war was going on in the Shadowfell, and that dire times were coming. Harold was able to escape unscathed, but was slightly shaken. D’Kacilius tried to reach the crown and offer it to Silent, but The Many kept knocking him out of the sky. A vengeful feeling overcame D’Kacilius, and he began slashing the Sword of Vengeance into The Many. A lone zombie bullywug cleric tried to heal The Many with a Healing Word, but D’Kacilius Counterspelled it as he mercilessly attacked. As D’Kacilius did so, he felt the four Eladrin from the room earlier begin to guide his hands as they thanked him for righting their wrongs. With a final stab, D’Kacilius plunged the Sword into The Many, killing it.

The Many wailed as it began to fall apart, and started tearing a rift to the Shadowfell as the crypt began to collapse. Harold was able to offer the crown of souls to Silent before D’Kacilius and the others had to escape. As the party reached the surface, the ground swelled up and returned to normal as the hole filled itself back up. Harold suddenly became possessed by the Many, who spoke of a strange prophecy relating to the Shadowfell and the four guilds. The bullywugs were extremely grateful for the party’s assistance, and gifted each of them a frog related item. D’Kacilius was gifted the Cloak of the Swamp, which camouflaged him in swampy and forest environments, and allowed D’Kacilius to temporarily Polymorph into a Giant Toad. The mayor of Fasiltum was also grateful and paid the adventurers handsomely. Unfortunately for D’Kacilius, Hornglosh’ corpse turned out to be just a vessel for The Many, so he was unable to claim a soul for Silent. Silent also began acting slightly weird after receiving the crown of souls…

D’Kacilius received a message from Hugo asking for help on an upcoming expedition up to the Northern Snowy Mountains. Apparently dwarven expeditions up in the mountains were being raided by dragons, and Falgrim of the Order of the Watchful Eye was sending adventurers up to help. D’Kacilius met Hugo in a hamlet a far distance from Gammelgard, while also bringing Aedynn along. The adventuring party consisted of: the Human Hexblade Warlock/Rogue Hugo Clarion, the Protoforged Clockwork Soul Sorcerer/Hexblade Warlock Vessel, the Red Dragonborn Beast Master Ranger Oxan Lightkeeper, the Relith “Alchemist Artificer” (read: doctor), an unknown (Simic Hybrid) Gloomstalker Ranger/Assassination Rogue Silythm Shadeheart, and the Human Light Cleric Aedynn Tylaster.
[insert text]

The Bonney Robert was a prototype airship what would bring the party up to a cavern where the supposed dragon lair was. After a couple hours of flying, the Bonney Robert landed near a cavern, and the adventurers disembarked. Silythm opted to scout ahead and discovered a semi-complex cave system with a yeti and several frost salamanders. The party began to stealth their way in, when Oxan’s donkey Rabbit suddenly brayed, and several ice mephit swarms ambushed the adventurers. The mephits were hiding on the nearby cliffs, and combat began.

As the party fought the ice mephits, they quickly realized that the mephits would shatter and spray ice shards as they died. Hugo ran to a cave and adopted the hit-and-hide strategy, while D’Kacilius tried to Eldritch Blast without triggering any shrapnel. Vessel and Silythm were caught in the unfortunate crossfire and downed several times as the mephits swarmed around them. D’Kacilius got hurt extremely badly when an ice mephit swarm blasted him with frosty breath.

Eventually, a loud rumble echoed from the cavern entrance. The yeti stormed out and began attacking the party, along with a frost salamander. Things took a turn for the worst when Ensign, Vessel, Silythm and D’Kacilius all got knocked out from the yeti’s frost breath. Vessel was able to recover and cast Aid to revive D’Kacilius and Silythm, but only temporarily. The yeti immediately knocked out Vessel and D’Kacilius with a powerful strike, and almost threw Ensign off the cliff. Luckily, the Bonney Robert was close enough to provide artillery support with its cannons. With insane luck, everyone was able to escape to the ship.

D'Kacilius was given a small amount of gold upon returning. On the airship, he was also supplied with Falgrim’s Fire and one of Falgrim’s Ring of Feather Falling. This adventure was not kind to D’Kacilius. There also seem to be cracks appearing to form within as well…

Summary: Drang decided to talk <s>smack</s> against Silent, which pissed off D’Kacilius. Feyjin tried to lower the tensions between the two. However, D’Kacilius turned on Feyjin, since she mentioned how D’Kacilius’ “extreme zealotry” would not make him look favorable. He targeted Feyjin’s uncertainty in her faith, increasing the tensions between the two. Hugo interjected, asking D’Kacilius what <s>stupid things</s> he was doing. Drang, Feyjin and Hugo slowly cornered D’Kacilius into an alley, when Tristram also showed up. Tristram spoke of a “connection” between Silent and someone named Towie (aka The One Who Waits), and how he was happy that D’Kacilius was already ruining Silent’s reputation, making it easier for him to garner support for his Anti-Silent Campaign. Since D’Kacilius was in an obviously unfavorable position, he flew away in annoyance.

-"DEADLY INTERVENTION" was unexpected and did not go as planned. My original intention was for D'Kacilius to return "warped", barely speaking in Common but instead in a strange Abyssal-Infernal hybrid. He was additionally supposed to change his background from Acolyte to Haunted One. The Snowy Mountain Adventure (Session 56) mentally drained me, and finals/winter break was coming up, so I decided to give myself a break from D&D for a bit. I was originally planning to drop some hints about his condition, then disappearing until I was able to return. However, some players intervened, and an entire Soul Scape Expedition occured.

D'Kacilius Venrai is a level 8 (7/1 split) Amethyst Dragonborn Hexblade Warlock/Death Cleric devoted to preserving the memory and legacy of Silent, the Arbiter of Death. He is one of the last remaining Whispered Reapers, the original cult that worshipped Silent. His soul holds fragments of the Great Lord Azzoketh and “Honey-Tongued” Rirra, who are bound by Casi’Kulid, an ancient Draconic aspect.

Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]

Personality[edit | edit source]

To most people, D'Kacilius is overeager and dangerous. Described by some as "unhinged", "extreme", a "blind zealot" and much more, even Silent is slightly concerned about D'Kacilius. However, D'Kacilius always cared about his devotion to the Arbiter of Death.

This is due to his upbringing: For his entire life, D'Kacilius was taught one thing: Complete devotion to the Arbiter of Death through any means. Whether it was through slaughter, sacrifice, profane rituals, or more, all that mattered was true devotion.

In truth, D'Kacilius could be considered naïve, as he hasn't had much experience of society outside of the Whispered Reapers.

Upon entering the Greedy Green, D'Kacilius immediately made enemies with a single whimsical threat.

D'Kacilius used to believe in one thing.

“Death is common. Death is inevitable. There are just some who bring it quicker for most, and I am one of them.”

However, several adventures brought D'Kacilius to near death, slowly eroding away at his mind.

Then, after one extremely perilous adventure, D'Kacilius broke.

A Soul Scape revealed that the constant weave between life and death fractured his mind, freeing three aspects and granting them control. Azzoketh, Rirra, and Casi'Kulid constantly fought, causing D'Kacilius to become dormant within.

"The Great Lord" Azzoketh[edit | edit source]

Azzoketh is a shadow demon who commonly wields a greatsword. He made a pact with Vayurn, who tried to take over the Whispered Reapers. Azzoketh broke his contract and betrayed Vayurn, before being shattered and bound to D'Kacilius by Casi'Kulid.

Azzoketh is bloodthirsty and always ready to fight. However, he is also stubborn and can easily be provoked.

D'Kacilius sometimes allows Azzoketh to take control during combat or when intimidating people.

“Honey-Tongued” Rirra[edit | edit source]

Rirra is a cambion who wields twin daggers. She made a pact with Regina, who tried to take over the Whispered Reapers. Rirra broke her contract and betrayed Regina, before being shattered and bound to D'Kacilius by Casi'Kulid.

Rirra is manipulative and like to revel in other people's pain. She likes to twist her words, making it difficult to read her intentions.

D'Kacilius sometimes allows Rirra to take control when persuading or deceiving others.

Casi’Kulid[edit | edit source]

Casi’Kulid is the alias of D’Kacilius’ Draconic aspect. As a result of his egg being dormant, D'Kacilius had traces of primordial draconic magic in his blood. The Whispered Reapers conducted a ritual to determine his lineage, which awoke Casi'Kulid from within. When D'Kacilius nearly died during his Ascension, Casi'Kulid intervened, and bound Azzoketh and Rirra directly to D'Kacilius' soul.

Casi'Kulid is polite and proud, but also clueless sometimes.

Due to their direct connection, D'Kacilius is most comfortable with Casi'Kulid, and as such sometimes Casi'Kulid is allowed to take control when necessary.

History[edit | edit source]

D’Kacilius is an ancient dragonborn, not in age, but in type.

Primordial dragonborn are rare, as most of the eggs hatched long ago. D’Kacilius’ egg lay dormant for years, instead sheltered in a cave from the outside world.

“I will not be chained forever. I will break free and wreak my havoc upon the world.”

“Nothing lasts forever, including this petty little cage of yours.”

“Awaken your ancestry, cast your shadow and prove the legacy you are destined.”

As the dawn grew near, the clashing of blades and magic grew silent. Blood splattered the walls crimson red, as bodies were strewn about. By the time the sun peeked over the horizon, the only remaining survivor sat quietly at a broken altar.

D’Kacilius has shut this entire event out. The demon and the devil have been suppressed within him, along with a strange primordial entity. However, several near-death experiences have spread the cracks, and the cage broke. Azzoketh, Rirra, and Casi'Kulid broke free, fighting within D'Kacilius' soul, and fracturing his psyche.

After a Soul Scape Expedition, some therapy, and divine intervention, D'Kacilius has regained control over the three entities. So far, D'Kacilius seems to have recovered.

Languages[edit | edit source]

D'Kacilius knows the following languages:

 • Common (it’s Common)
 • Draconic (he’s a dragonborn)
 • Abyssal (Azzoketh’s influence)
 • Infernal (Rirra’s influence)

Through some strange magic, D'Kacilius also learned the following languages:

 • Primordial (cause ancient magic)
 • Sylvan (cause why not)
 • Wiki (cause reasons)

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

D'Kacilius is adept in both magic and martial weaponry.

As a Gem Dragonborn, he is able to sprout spectral wings for limited flight (Gem Flight), breathe and resist pure magic energy (Breath Weapon/Draconic Resistance), and talk telepathically to others (Psionic Mind).

When Silent was released from their prison, D'Kacilius noticed a growth in his magic. He was now able to curse a target, causing his attacks to deal more damage (Hexblade's Curse), and summon stronger weapons into existence to wield against enemies (Pact of the Blade). Additionally, his magical abilities were augmented, allowing him to cast more potent blasts of energy (Agonizing Blast) and further honed his melee fighting capabilities (Hex Warrior/Thirsting Blade).

At range, D'Kacilius usually snipes at targets from afar with pure magical energy (Eldritch Blast), and can also grab a person's soul, preventing them from healing (Chill Touch). He can also scatter groups of energy at range with thunderous power (Shatter).

After several adventures (leveling up to level 6), D’Kacilius gained magical darkvision (Devil’s Sight) and the ability to reanimate a slain humanoid enemy as a temporary ally (Accursed Specter). He is also able to create a sphere of magical darkness (Darkness) but lost the ability to nullify magical effects (Dispel Magic).

Recently (leveling up to level 7), D'Kacilius regained the ability to remove magical effects (Dispel Magic). He is also better at maintaining concentration spells (Eldritch Mind) and is now able to create a shadowy cloak that obscures D'Kacilius, weakens radiant attacks, and hurts enemies who attack with melee strikes (Shadow of Moil) instead of just creating a shimmer (Blur).

Attacks and Weapons[edit | edit source]

D'Kacilius prefers whittling down enemies before closing the gap to finish them off. He usually shoots at enemies afar with Eldritch Blast, then swoops in to slash through enemies with the Sword of Vengeance.

Special Equipment/Items[edit | edit source]

Cloak of the Swamp: Gifted to D'Kacilius by the bullywugs of Stollblossom Island after helping save their children from being eaten. A cloak that grants advantage on Stealth checks in swamp and forest environments. It also allows D'Kacilius to Polymorph into a Giant Toad once per day.

Falgrim's Ring of Feather Falling: Given as equipment by the crew piloting one of Falgrim's airships. Acts as a normal Ring of Feather Falling, but is limited to 3 charges. Currently has 2 charges remaining.

Silent Flame Tattoo: A tattoo that allows Silent to cast effects of D'Kacilius for one less point (minimum of one point per favor). The design is Silent's religious symbol (a skeletal hand with an hourglass) in blood red ink and completely covers D'Kacilius' back.

The (Silent) Sword of Vengeance (aka "Deathblade")[edit | edit source]

This Sword of Vengeance feeds the souls of those slain by the sword directly to Silent. It was anonymously traded in at Arms de Armas, and D'Kacilius purchesed it shortly after his first adventure. The sword was created with Drow magic, and has runes and markings of the Drow Life God Ellistree. There is also symbiology of an unknown War God, which is why a DC 15 Wisdom check is required when D'Kacilius is hurt to prevent him from going into a "Vengeful" state.

If D'Kacilius prays for one minute to Silent 30 minutes before the next combat, he is able to collect the soul of any creature that dies within 60 feet. This includes friendly/neutral PCs and NPCs.

The Sword of Vengeance is both D'Kacilius' signature weapon, and a holy symbol of Silent.

Adventures[edit | edit source]

Shadows on Stage (Session 46a: Mothers VI - Hagtober)[edit | edit source]

Allies: Feyjin Eldarhearth, Asger, Eurus, Ona, Linden Rue, Markoth Dawnborn

Loot: ??? Gold (forgot amount), Seglock Coupon Book (50% off Arms de Armas), Potion of Greater Disguise Self

Bugs in a Mine (Session 49: The Breach III)[edit | edit source]

Allies: Airavata, Kaba, Herneldo, Dug, Arlin Fiddlehead

Loot: ??? Gold (forgot amount), Elk stag antlers, Elk Soul, Scroll of Searing Smite, 3 ornate chisels (potential arcane foci), Small amount of unprocessed aerocrystal

The Wovenstone Escort Team vs The Rock'Em Sock'Em Robocentaurs (Session 52: DOS II)[edit | edit source]

Allies: Felicia Du Manoir, Violet Lorinda, Trina Aliosh, Tristram Caniedydd, Grandmush

Loot: 1175 Gold (275 mission fee + 900 gems)

Frogs in a Bog (and a God) (Session 54: The Breach VI/Silent V)[edit | edit source]

Allies: Felicia Du Manoir, Harold, Alexander "Xander" Sunfire, Aedynn Tylaster, Kriqwyn

Loot: 500 Gold, Cloak of the Swamp, Bullywug Translator Frog?

Snowy Mountains Suck a Lot (Session 56: White Dragons of the Mountains I)[edit | edit source]

Allies: Aedynn Tylaster, Silythm Shadeheart, Ensign, Oxan Lightkeeper, Vessel, Hugo Clarion

Important Rp Threads/Moments[edit | edit source]

"Threatening" Linden Rue[edit | edit source]

PCs involved: Linden Rue, Tristram Caniedydd, Delphi, Vadath

(Note: Originally intended to be banter, but then turned out to be a stupid idea)

Summary: Half-IC, half-OOC. A discussion in #greedy-general occurred about Session 49a. Linden talked about how she “deprived the quiet one (aka Silent) of yet another soul to nom…” literally after D’Kacilius bought the Sword of Vengeance. I thought it would be some fun banter and was “now tempted to stab [Linden] with this new sword [D’Kacilius] just bought” since I was “offended” by that statement. (Spoiler: Not fun banter. Threatening people day 1 = I will die.) Tristram began warning me of my actions, and Delphi jumped in to deter me, also warning that Linden was protected. Vadath showed up to ask if there was “another warlock threatening [his] guild mates”. Things dissipated after I asked how to learn more about the campaign.

TL; DR: Don’t do stupid things, like threatening someone with a shiny new sword you just bought.

Drang's Anti-Silent Outburst on the Streets ("To Worship or Not to Worship")[edit | edit source]

PCs involved: Drang, Feyjin Eldarhearth, Hugo Clarion, Tristram, Pot’tu (Showed up, but only silently observed)

Summary: Drang decided to talk smack against Silent, which pissed off D’Kacilius. Hugo interjected, asking D’Kacilius what stupid things he was doing.

TL; DR: Religious talk soured relations between a couple of PCs and established that D’Kacilius is passively making way too many enemies.

Fractures Forming (“DEADLY INTERVENTION”)[edit | edit source]

PCs involved: Silent, Delphi, Hugo Clarion, Linden Rue, Durian, Feyjin Eldarhearth

Summary: Silent asked Delphi to be wary of D’Kacilius, who began showing some disturbing changes. [insert text]

TL; DR: D’Kacilius’ past, which has caught up, is now partially revealed- and Azzoketh, Rirra, and Casi'Kulid have come out to play.

Healing the Broken Dragon (Side RP)[edit | edit source]

PCs involved: Linden Rue, Silent

Summary: A few days after Linden set up her therapy booth, D’Kacilius decided it might be a good idea to try therapy out. After some note passing, Linden and D’Kacilius met on the outskirts of town [insert text]

TL; DR: A private therapy session turned into divine intervention, and D’Kacilius is “mostly” back to normal.

Random Info Dump (aka the "I-Hate-My-Life" Counter or “the XP Dump”)[edit | edit source]

-Hilarious Bad/Sad Luck Counter

 • During the fight with Mother Peace, got hit by a double roll with disadvantage. The premodifier damage for said attack would have left D'Kacilius at exactly one hit point. Then James added the modifiers -_-
 • Rolled a Nat 0 (Nat 1 with a -1 mod to Int) and determined that the Pradassis Mining Conglomerate is a front for the mob.
 • One yugoloth was taken to very low health during the mining expedition. D'Kacilius swung at it twice- and left it at exactly one hit point.
 • Accidentally picked up a loot item (Scroll of Searing Smite) that couldn't be used because of class restrictions.
 • Apparently doesn't know what a "double j" is.
 • During the Wovenstone escort, one Robocentaur overkilled D'Kacilius by one hit point.
 • Rolled a Nat 0 (again), this time determining a giant mushroom with "roots" is actually a giant tree.
 • Failed a Wisdom Save on Stollblossom Island and couldn't offer a Crown of Souls to Silent.
 • First ever combat kill granted no souls.
 • Failed all combat saving throws and got downed twice during an expedition into the Snowy Mountains.
 • One attack during the Snowy Mountains was 42 damage when D'Kacilius was at 5 health. His max health is 45.
 • Lowest ever amount of gold in inventory ever is 16 gold pieces (after a hefty 650 gold piece downtime research on the Sword of Vengeance).
 • Followed and tried to help a young girl and ended up being stabbed by a Draconian Dreadnought in disguise, failing the Wisdom Save (but didn’t matter because backstabbing someone is rude).
 • Somehow left a Draconic Mastermind at 1 hit point.
 • Rolled 5 Nat 1s during the Megagame. One of the rolls was a Dex Save against Kennandra (which ended up oneshotting D'Kacilius with 62 damage).
 • Paid for my own depression ("Training" backgrounds costs 250 gold pieces, which sucked because A. D'Kacilius was changing from Acolyte to Haunted One, and B. D'Kacilius became broke af)

-Sadly incompetent at killing (see above). Only "real" kill is an elk stag during a hunting session taken while preparing to enter the mine. EDIT: Finally got a kill (landing the killing blow for both phases of a boss), but no soul was claimed with the Sword of Vengeance :( DOUBLE EDIT: 1v1’d (with some help from Cuebert the Murder-Jello) a Draconian Dreadnought, and claimed its soul, along with 6 other Draconian souls with a special effect from the Sword of Vengeance,

-Originally named “Kacilius”. The “D” was added afterwards when I learned that all Gem Dragonborn (Delphi and Durian) all had names that start with “D”. A “D” was added afterwards to follow the pattern, but the name is pronounced as if the “D” is silent. Also fits since D’Kacilius worships Silent and he has a “silent” letter

-Technically the third iteration of Kacilius. Kacilius is a "template character" that embodies my favorite things from D&D, so the character's race/class/background/personality has been used in other campaigns. The first version was killed by some ghouls who crit three times IN A ROW. The second version rolled a Nat 1 for a Dispel Magic- for a 9th level Imprisonment- and got sent to Pandemonium. There has a fourth version, who got screwed over by the party during the final session and got demoted from his original intended position. Hopefully D'Kacilius (Version 3) doesn't get screwed over any further. He's already suffering and so am I

-Probably has the worst reputation out of all player characters.

-Considers himself the "Eyes and Ears" of Silent. I actively look through both the wiki and Discord (which is considered public information), so I catch nearly everything that happens IC and OOC. Consider yourself warned.

However, some players intervened, and an entire Soul Scape Expedition occurred.

Things that threw off my original plans:

 • D'Kacilius was gagged after being tied to a tree, preventing him from casting Sword Burst or Thunder Step (which are verbal only) to escape.
 • Silent was able to interact with the Soul Scape at the same time (but in a "split" instance). They decided to consume soul fragments that held D'Kacilius' memories, formed a contract with Azzoketh/Rirra/Casi'Kulid, and opened up a portal in D'Kacilius' Soul Scape directly to their domain.
 • Linden tried to befriend a cackler that was summoned to guard Vayurn's bedroom.
 • Hugo decided to swing at some of the supporting pillars in the Soul Scape, which represented Azzoketh, Rirra, Casi'Kulid and D'Kacilius. The pillars are literally a part of his Soul Scape, and attacking them actually hurt D'Kacilius because Azzoketh/Rirra/Casi'Kulid are directly linked to his soul.
