Sonrise is a personal Daggerheart campaign set in Post-History Quelmar on the post-apocalyptic floating Isles of Kiston that began in Fall of 2025.

The campaign involves five prisoners and a single newly sentient Clank who are given the ambitious task of doing what every great technical engineer has taught us: reset Motherboard by turning her off and back on again.

About[edit | edit source]

After the apocalyptic event that tore Quelmar's plane asunder and blew it into pieces, the forces that sunk Kiston pulled her remaining isles closer together and kept them together when everything else was blown away. This group of 6 isles now form the setting of our campaign, all linked together by a spiderweb of giant wires, held by spires, that connect to a singularity at the center where Kiston used to sit, the Motherboard.

Over the last two years, a terrorist group called the Sonrising has been taking over datawells and spires and using them to send fallen world viruses to Motherboard to cripple her. Many prisoners of the Argent Department of Corrections had been sent to infiltrate and destroy these datawells and take down the leaders of Sonrising, Persepolis, Petra, and the mastermind, Cairo. During a one-shot at Quelmarcon 2025, these prisoners were able to destroy the final datawell that was feeding Motherboard the virus and stop Cairo from completely uploading his consciousness to the Son's network. He was able to achieve 25%.

While Motherboard is crippled, Sonrising has started up a new major network from a spire within an old skyscraper on Cof called the Son, which contains a powerful AI, capable of giving sentience to a collected army of old automs, warforged, and clank husks that had been used under Motherboard as servants and domestic workers.

One such husk, N0rm4n, given his own mind, reached out to the authorities, turning himself over, saying in his new free will, he has made the decision to help assist those who wish to save Motherboard and even believes he may know a way to do so.

Player Characters[edit | edit source]

Fane [played by Caleb][edit | edit source]

A Simiah Brawler, Fane was once a prize fighter from Ossuary, who became a liability and after being beaten, lost his arm and was thrown into the sea. He was found by the monks on Oakist from the Discipline of the Shining Smile to learn to be more at peace and defense. On his first visit to the small isle of Argent, he ended up making fun of the wrong politician and found himself locked away.

Blue [played by Emma][edit | edit source]

A Fungril Warlock from Caskin, Blue tends to be a little airheaded and when some people offer to teach her more about repairing datawells, she found herself in an illegal data mining scheme -- and the authorities found her there too. Realizing that Blue truly was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, the Warden has put Blue on a work release program in her home island of Caskin so she doesn't spend her days in a cell block with actually dangerous criminals.

Kranik [played by Jon][edit | edit source]

A Gargantris Warrior from Caskin who dreams of being a great gladiator who's name is chanted in the crowds, his largest grief with this dream is the organization who runs these fights is the reason he was born the way he is. The son of a Giant father and Infernis mother, he was bred specifically for the tenacity and strength he would have on the battlefield. Kranik was arrested when attempting to overthrow the current organization with a revolution, but it seems the connections that the organization holds run deeper than the gargantris understood.

Dominus Nihlus [played by Nikki][edit | edit source]

A Faerie Witch from Cof (before the rise of the Son), she has spent her life striving to be as close to Motherboard as possible, slowly replacing pieces of her physical body with mechanical pieces like the half-remnants of Ossuary. She was arrested for physically assaulting someone, citing "They profaned Motherboard" in her reasoning.

Henrietta [played by Tina][edit | edit source]

A Faun Bard from a floating city near Oakist, she is a little bit of an eccentric and has a taste for fashion and the macabre. She was caught trespassing when on an 'expedition' to 'recover relics from a tomb'. During her intake, she was quoted as saying "Sometimes sex appeal just isn't enough to not get caught".

Warden Memphis

NPCs[edit | edit source]

Warden Memphis[edit | edit source]

Head of the Argent Correctional Facility, Warden Memphis is the operative commander of the mission to restart Motherboard. She has ultimate authority over who was chosen for the team and will have to answer the KIM government if it fails and Motherboard is lost.

N0rm4n

N0rm4n[edit | edit source]

A newly sentient Clank, N0rm4n, or Norman, upon gaining his consciousness, decided that he didn't want to follow the coalition's agenda and thinking for himself, left Cof and headed directly for the nearest government site. He told them all he knew about what had been done to Motherboard and that when he connected to her network, he believed he knew how to repair her. He asked for a team to protect and aid him and so he was put in touch with Warden Memphis.

Persepolis

Persepolis[edit | edit source]

The quite, yet calculating leader of the Sonrise Coalition, Persepolis or "Persy" was originally just a thief and hacker who worked her ways up to Cairo's right hand. Driven by revenge for the death of her lover, Carthage, and her mentor, Cairo, she leads Sonrise towards their ultimate goal: to dismantle Motherboard once and for all and replace her with their new network, the Son.
